No, you can show up for any Academy any time. That's the great thing about them. So if you want, you can show up for just one or two certain times, but you do not need to officially join any. They are open to all members, cadet or no. A word of advice, however: most GMs need to see you sim more than once before they consider you for graduation.

As for a ship or station. You can always shop around for an Advanced sim before you graduate: view the sim's website, talk to its members, et cetera. But you can't officially choose one until you graduate, then you'll be given an application to fill out. Remember that you're welcome to observe any Advanced sim so you can see what it's like, this will help give you an idea of which sim you'd like to choose after graduation.

I would recommend contacting the CO and XO of the sim you want to join to ask if there any openings.

Hey there,

I'll answer this part, as others have already dealt with the other question. :)

The answer in simple is no. While you can go ahead and check with the CO/XO of each sim to see what openings they might currently have, one must keep in mind that positions are filled on a daily basis. As a result, when you start the Academy the (example only) U.S.S. Republic may have an opening for a tactical officer. However, by the time you graduate, that position has been filled and is no longer available.

After one has graduated, your sent an application and detail what sims you would prefer to join. In addition, you list what slots you would be interested in filling. Then we go thru all the current rosters and find a match. Man, I'm starting to sound like an advertisement for STSF's version of eHarmony.com :D

Although we do have openings in Science on the Republic!

:D There were a couple of cute little Orion slave girls down at the Experience, and they were twins. :) Seriously, out of abject and insane curiosity, in the history of STSF, how many players have become "couples" while simming? Either the characters becoming couples and or in r/t.

Oh yea, got off topic there for a second. Welcome to STSF OHNO. Hope to see you around the academy. While I was in acadamy, I looked around at the different ships websites and sat in on a few advanced sim's and observed. I went to as many academy's as I could and checked out each gm's style of simming. Then after I graduated, I chose the ship I wanted. It was a tossup between 4, so I listed them on my application and the post's I was interested in and wound up on the Qob. :D

Also, if you have the time, you certainly can join more than one ship as well. Most of the players here, are on 2 or 3 ships, heck I'm on 4. :D But joining 4 ships, is not something I'd reccomend unless you've got alot of time on your hands, such as I. :)

However, it is best to start off on just one Advanced sim, once you graduate from the Academy. You don't want to spread yourself too thin and then lose interest on all of them because they take up too much of your time (or you can't give them the time you want)

Hey there,

Something I know a few GMs are complaining about with some of our folks who are on three, four or more sims. :D
