Just want to know how i can cope better with this and if any of the new cadets have the same problems or something simaliar. Would like to hear from any one.

It does take some getting used to. It all depends on what position you're playing too. For now, until you can read others' messages without falling behind, focus on the messages of your department head, other people in your department, the GMs', the XO, and the man behind the curtain.

But of course, all that guy says is:

Ignore the man behind the curtain! He has, is, and never in anyway will be the Great and Powerful Wizard of Oz!

:P

Brad,

I know how you feel. When I started simming, this was my biggest problem. The key is to focus on certain posts specifically within the chat room. For example, if you are an AENG, you really should focus on what the CENG is doing, what the other AENGs might be doing and any action statements given by the CO/XO. I tend to like to follow what's going on on the bridge, but that's up to you. Now, if you're the chief of a department, say CENG, you'll want to pay attention to the AENGs under you and get the general gist of what's going on on the bridge. As always, be mindful that there will be action statements that you really need to pay close attention to.

Hope this helps!

My biggest problem, even in advanced sims, is remembering what my character is not supposed to know yet.

Kbear: *Van Roy* Report!

Lt. Van Roy: ::taps Kbear on the shoulder:: Why are you using the intercom? I'm standing right next to you.

Hey there,

First, welcome to STSF.

Second, you are not alone. Honestly, even now I sometimes have that problem...and I've been doing this longer than I care to admit at the moment!

Third, best thing I can suggest is this: Saying you are an AENG 1, ignore everything else going on unless you see someone talking to AENG 1 or the CENG. Nothing else really concerns you, perhaps outside of the ACTION statements.

Sticking to that, might find it a bit more managable. The key isn't to be trying to read everything taht comes up during the game, rather only focus on what comes up that deals with you.

Ignoring everything except your department also helps cut down on many people's problems of knowing "too much" from around the ship. (i.e. and order is made on the bridge, and an AENG is already rerouting power to compensate for it before the CENG can get the order down to Main Engineering.)

Basically, I just do this:

Focus on the people in your department. You work with them more closely.

Watch out for any ACTION statements. Those effect (usually) everyone.

Follow the Chain of Command. Muy importante! This ensures there is no toe stepping and things get done properly.

And last, but not least ... HAVE FUN! If you are enjoying yourself that's all that really matters. The ones having the most fun are usually the ones doing well and it WILL be noticed.

Good luck!
