On that topic, cammera phones are just about the worst idea ever. They do have a small purpose, but when are you ever really going to use it?

I once knew a guy who used it to take photos up chick's skirts. He kinda got expelled tho :P

See, that's why they got banned at my school. There's no real purpose for them, other then doing inapropriate things. Besides, the cammeras them selves are so low quality. I dont even think they reach a megapixel yet...

I'm not saying I hate them or anythings, theres just no real need for them.

Hey there,

Well, give it another perhaps five years and you're going to find the resolution of those "camera phones" to match that of stand alone digital cameras. It is not that far off when your cell phone, PDA, camer and portable music system will all be the same device. There are some serious benefits to it when you think about it, the technology just hasn't advanced that far.

As for cameras on phones, I know that is one reason why within the past six months the United States Federal Court system has now banned cell phones in the courthouse. Unlike civil cases, Federal court cases carry a major degree of "unanimity" amongst defendants, witnesses, etc. Concern got too great about someone coming in with a cell phone, taking a picture of a witness and then using it for inappropriate means. Believe that even happened with a news outlet, who took the photo and before the court could even take the phone had already e-mailed it to their editor.

When I can make a phone call from my PDA, I'll use it. I use my PDA constantly.

But cell phones? My option wasn't there so I didn't vote. I have a cell phone but I leave it in my Jeep. I don't take it with me and I only use it for important calls or emergencies.

Cell phones are a complete rip-off. The service plans can range from 50-200 dollars a month. Usually it comes out to about 5-10 cents per minute, assuming you abide by their strict guidelines. Often over-use charges can climb up to 40 cents a minute...MORE if you are out of your 'coverage area'.

Cell phone companies use a lot of word games, legal mumbojumbo, and confusing systems (even the ones who claim not to have fine print and other cheats) to get you to pay as much as possible, and to overuse your phone.

Frankly, cell-phones are annoying. They go off in libraries, movie theaters, museums. Nothing's more bothersome than standing in line at the grocery store and someone in front of you starts yelling into their phone.

If someone needs to get ahold of me, they can leave a message on my machine at home. I'm not important to need a cell 24-7, and 99% of the people in the US are not important enough for this need. Most phone calls made are useless chatter that could be saved for a more appropriate time.

My gf uses her cell-phone alot and it bothers me to no end. I hate cell-phones. But, when you really need it, it is a nice tool to have.

I use my cell phone quite a bit. A lot of times, it is to call Mom, or to call friends, etc. Cell phones are just more convenient to me (no wires, etc.). I call long distance on my cell phone (after 7:00) because it is cheaper than landline.

Cell phones also have a more "personal" touch to them. Some of my friends have their phones clipped to their belts, etc., to make them look important. Mine sits in my pocket, and is rarely removed unless the ringer goes off... which is the Star Wars End Theme. :P

Heh, My old Virgin Mobile phone had the Iron Man ringtone (Yeah Peyton, Virgin Mobile rocks!)

Unfortunently, I used the phone so much, that I had to switch to a planned phone, it was cheaper. However, Verizon really screws you over for ringtones. You have to pay X number of Dollars, and then you can only use the tone like 8 times, then you have to pay again!

And to what HD said, sometimes it is better to use your cell over your house phone. I have unlimited nights starting at 9 (you must have sprint HD) and unlimited weekends. I also have all time unlimited longdistance, so if I need to make a call to my mom, who's out of state, it's cheaper to use my cell phone then to use the phone sitting next to me.

You pay for ringtones? Dude just use the composer and go to a website that tells you what to type. worked for me :P

I just use the composer to give me whatever type of code that is that you send to your phone, and SMS the ringtone to myself. (Costs me 10 cents per SMS, but it's better than the $3 my service provider charges to buy their ringtones.)

There is always around the system. lol.

BTW, I use the only service provider that works along the Western Kentucky Parkway - Bluegrass Cellular. :P

Cell phone. I was late in getting one. I fall into the same catagory as most otheres: saw no need for one, but now wouldn't be without it.

Like Sovak, I was kinda late in geetting a cell phone (A Motorola C-333). Hardly ever use the thing. Only pay about $25/mo. (CAN). But that's in the eveing and weekends. but, yeah.. my phone is pretty crappy. Black&white monitor.. it looks like a toy. Can't wait for my contract to end.. (in Nov) maybe I'll get one of those cool flip phones. :P

Yup, I have one from work myself, a Blackberry. It is synched with my e-mail, contacts, calendar. I get my work e-mails directly to the device, can respond from it and it has a cell phone built in, along with SMS.

As my boss calls it, it's Silicon Handcuffs. The good thing is that I can be reached anywhere - the bad thing is that I can be reached anywhere!

What, you can't turn it off and later claim ignorance? :P

Nope, not at all!! The other piece of the puzzle is that I'm in charge of Technology Services, so if I claim ignorance, I'll be claiming unemployment benefits.

I doubt you will ever see that. Even a *cheap* PDA, with no wireless connections to anything, will run you $200 minimum.

Where the heck are you buying from? You can pick up a color screen Handspring or Palm for $200. The b/w screen versions (the one I have) can be had for under $100 easily.

I think that he is talking about the devices that can get you live e-mail sending and receiving, that's when you start getting into Blackberry or Good Products or even a Palm or Pocket PC device with added modems. If you really want something that will give you phone and e-mail and other PDA functions, then you have to pay more (and keep paying on a monthly basis).
