the parents were looking for something, ANYthing, to blame for their kids' misguidedness and absurdly chose Canada.

No, no, I think that they got that right. Canada's very good at absurdity and misguidedness. I mean, look how I turned out. ;)

lol, I only added "Canada" because I saw I was listing the things from Mrs. Broslowski's(sp) song from the South Park movie. For those that have avoided the movie, the parents were looking for something, ANYthing, to blame for their kids' misguidedness and absurdly chose Canada.

(Unfortunately, I love the soundtrack CD from the movie, so these clips pop into my head from time to time, lol).

I meant NO offense, only absurdity. ;)

What would Brian Boytano (sp) do?

Well, crappitydoo! Everybody already said everything I could have possibly said on this topic! Darn you! lol.

But I went to the ATM tonight and have a couple bucks to spare, so I'll chuck 'em in the pot and type ANYway!

While I have known a few very messed up witchcraft adults, many alcoholics, some drug abusers, and some plain old nutcakes, I can not for a minute imagine my childhood without fantasy fiction. Magic, wizards, rings, wardrobes, hobbits, dragons...

The world will always be filled with nutcakes. Ya can't blame the nut trees or bakers... You can blame parents, society, Canada, drug pushers, advertising, and just plain bad neurophysical wiring. Hopefully with the grace of God, good parenting, and some common sense, most of us will end up okay.

Supervising kids is good. My folks always assumed that as long as I was reading, it was a good thing. I, uh, therefor read many things inappropriate for my age, lol. But I learned a lot of important things VERY early! (They didn't even blink when I read a book called "The Happy Hooker" from the stack my brother brought home from long Navy sea trips).

And I STILL turned out okay! (IMO).

Well anyway, like I said, everybody has already said all this already. Kudos to those of you who take the time to read and watch the things your kids are interested in. Trust that your good instincts will guide them to know the difference between harmless (glorious!) fantasy and inappropriate conclusions.

Auntie Huff has even accompanied one of my kids to the movies...and we all had a good time. It was LOTR...what else could there have been?

Wizards, Nazgul.....I love the Nazgul, halflings, swords....but all supervised..

LOL...

Thanks again Huff!

I was quoting the South Park lyrics that Huff was refering to.

Hey there,

Alright, now can someone tell me how a topic that was started to discuss individual's thoughts on Harry Potter turned into a discussion about South Park? Anyone? Anyone? Anyone? ;)

It's really simple. Huff compared parents complaining about Harry Potter books with parents complaining about South Park.

I am proud to say I complained about neither! Mwah!

::wears button, "I'm a Kewl Mom":: Hee hee.

Isn't it funny though how a topic can change just like that? Amusing too.

Welcome to STSF. This is actually pretty typical for us. Sometimes we even have contests to see how soon or how far something can be taken off-topic. ;)

Sigh, why is it here that whenever we have a post about childhood, it always turns into a heated religious debate?

Well when I first read this topic I thought Fred was asking who is a Hewlet-Packard fan. They make good printers, but their PCs are only so-so.

Dells are better. They are black. Any IT professional will tell you black computers are better.

The scary thing is I agree with Vanroy, I thought the exact same thing. I was sitting here reading the topic titles going "Why did Fred post a topic on Hewlet-Packards"?

HP makes great printers and should have stuck with printers and printers alone. PC's are ok, not the greatest, not the worst.

And on the third point, I agree with Vanroy. Dells are great PC's. They are black. Black PC's are much better than other colored computers.

I run an Emachines myself. Cant complain, although I'm thinking of spraypainting it black to get a little faster processing speeds.
