So. I am at the grocery store this afternoon. And I am going through my list of things I need and I get to 'Ice Cream' and 'Pop' (Soda for you wierdos :P ) And I find my way to the Frozen Food Isle only to find an entire freezer section dedicated to "Atkins Friendly Ice Cream" oy...just oy....some things were MEANT to be fattening...Ice Cream is one of them. ;) Not to mention the "Bunless Burgers" at Burger King....

So my question is: Are any of the rest of you a little sick of this Atkins thing ruinning perfectly good food?

You know you have a point. Take a look some time at some of those "Atkins" Products and boy do they have a load of fat in them.

Some of the people on Atkins are actually hurting themselves. There are fatty carbs, and healthy carbs. THere cutting back on the healthy carbs as well, which is not healthy.

I have mixed feelings on the Atkins diet stuff. I am 6 feet tall and weigh 145 lbs soaking wet. I do not need a diet. However, I enjoy the fact that beef has been reclasified as a health food. The hamburgers without buns stuff does go overboard however.

However, a former vegan friend of mine is now on Atkins. She swears by it, and truth be told she has lost a lot of weight. It seems to be working for her. It is still shocking to hear her say "I'll have the steak" instead of "just a salad" but her carnivore friends do like the change.

What I have no respect for is Jenny Craig. I knew two people on that diet. They swore by the program, and bragged about what a wonderful program it was every chance they got, but as long as I knew them they never lost any weight.

Ultimately a diet has to be measured against actual results. From my admittedly unscientific results Atkins seems to work better than other diets.

I too have mixed feelings about all these Atkin's diets and stuff. Everywhere I go I seem too see Atkin Friendly foods, such as soy burgers, pizza with feta cheese and spinach, especially with Subway. But yeah.. some carbs are good for you and it's not too healthy skipping out on them. I don't know msyelf.. I'm basically a skinny person, with a very high metabolism rate, so Atkins is something I do not need.

But, sadly yeah.. it's realy getting out of hand, eh? Isn't that why Mc Donald's pulled the plug on Supersized fries in the States?

I've invented a new diet called the low everything diet. You take a major food group and..YOU STOP CONSUMING IT..yes..thats right..now you too can have the low or no protien diet..also known as veganism, the low carb diet known as insanity and the low everything diet known as anorexia...

Hey there,

Say what you want to...using a modified version of the Atkins program, I lost well over 40 pounds in a six month period. That was over a year ago and I haven't gained one pound of it back. So...garbage or not...don't discount it. ;)

Atkins is a great diet for weight loss, but it's not a healthy diet. Carbs are your main source of energy, the atkin's diet makes it so that protien and fat are you main sources in fat so that you loose weight. The thing is, that Carbs are an important part of your diet because it supplies you with energy. Also you have high amounts of cholestrol in the Atkin's diet which leads to heart problems.

"Supersize Me"

Anyone who eats fast food every day should expect to die at 40. Even their healthy meals are old garbage that's been sitting on the shelf for a week.

Ahem, well I for one hate the Atkins diet, but it's simply because everyone around me is on it except me and it's really annoying to have sugar free and low carb stuff all over the place!

Give me sweets any day!

But anyways, since I've been preached on this a million times I'll say this. The Atkins diet does not cut 'all' the carbs out of your diet. Of course you still needs carbs to carry on with your metabolism, but when you start the diet you are only allowed to have 30 carbs a day, Max. If you work out once an hour a day you are allowed to have up to 100 carbs a day. As you progress in the diet you are allowed to have more carbs, as your body is adapting to this.

So, the basis of the whole diet is simply that our bodies were not meant to deal with Carb overload; in which everything we eat is loaded with it. Humans are savage beasts, to put it in blunt terms. Our bodies our made to eat fat, since fat is digested faster than carbs. What your body does first is break down carbs since they are more complex than fat.

So that is why your cholestrol doesn't shoot up because your eating too much fat, it shoots up because you are having too many carbs and all that fat that is left over from what your body couldn't handle gets stored away.

Even though I am a sugar-aholic, I don't knock the diet. I simply can't live without sweets. I'd go into withdrawl. ;)

So, if you are a bit overweight, or just want to lose a few pounds, actually try out the diet. I think it's hiliarious to see people all over the place eat 20 oz. steaks and ask for no bread with there meal. :P

The diet, strangley enough, works! And it's been found to lower your cholestrol!

Scary I know! :P

::Tosses some monopoly money into the jar. Rant over::

Hey there,

This is something I've heard many people claim and I've gotta come to the defense of the man. Sorry...

Atkins died at the age of 72. He had been in the hospital for five months following an incident in early April when he slipped on an icy sidewalk outside his house. Surgery that same month was performed to remove a blood clot near his brain.

When he entered the hospital in April 2002, he was weighed and found to be where he should have been. Upon his death, it was learned he was overweight. The news media took this and ran, until Doctors at New York Weill Cornell Medical Center came out to say "What do you expect when your being fed fluids and food by a tube for five months, all the time sitting in a coma motionless?"

Doesn't sound like much of a coverup to me. ;)

I stopped eating most fast food after hearing about that documentary. Give me a fresh salad anyday.

Here is the funny thing...

Most of those "Fresh Salads" have as much or even more fat in them than the burgers do!
