“Dreams and Realities” - Part 3 of 3

"You didn't kill anyone, son," Dr. Stone patted Garnoopy's shoulder.  "The Colonel and Lt. Cmdr. Roget are just fine.  Dr. Farrington released them from sickbay herself.  However I know the Commander will be pleased to see you up and about.  She was very worried about you."

A sigh of relief escaped his lips, and he closed his eyes for a moment, relief that the shuttle, his shuttle, hadn’t killed them all.

In a flash, the details all came back despite his will to suppress them. The shuttle shaking, the panels seeming to scream bad news. Someone said something, but he didn’t hear.

Trying to clear his mind, he looked over his body, and pulled into an upright position, noting that the pain was less when he moved around, thanks most likely to the hypospray that Dr. Stone had administered a short while ago.

“Nurse, please administer 10 cc’s of trioline please. That should help with his pain.” Dr. Suberance told a nurse as he made a note on a PADD, the beeping sound loud and annoying.

“Understood doctor” the nurse responded while putting the hypo together. She pressed the hypospray to his neck, and administered the medication. “You should feel most of the pain going away pretty quickly.”

“Thank you nurse.” And just as she said, the pain immediately began to dissipate.

While talking to the nurse, Dr. Suberance headed off towards his office. Garnoopy’s mind began to wander again … he saw the Manticore coming at them … the ground forces firing on the shuttle … a clink emanated from the sickbay office, the sound of something dropping.

“Doctor?” He swallowed hard, but despite his efforts to suppress it, his entire body was thrown into another painful coughing fit.

Just as he settled down, Dr. Farrington walked into the room, obliviously with something on her mind, for she looked subdued, but continued on with her work, being filled in by Dr. Suberance on Garnoopy’s status.

“I’m fine,” he said in a raspy cracking voice.

A PADD was placed in his hands. “Type whatever you need to say for the next 48 hours Lieutenant” the Commander ordered him.

Garnoopy prepared his retort, but before he could say anything, the Commander spoke up. “No more talking, or we’ll take more drastic measures.”

Letting out a sigh, frustrated, and annoyed, he tapped the PADD, hands under control now that the medicine had taken effect. “Understood.”

Laying back on the biobed, his mind began to wander again, back to the whole incident. The cloak failing, the Griffin getting shot at, the explosions, the alerts going off. He wanted to scream, to get the thoughts out of his head. But he couldn’t, his voice would only fail him, and cause him more pain.

Eyes tightly shut, he drifited into a restless sleep.
