Digital deception

Dr. Beverly Crusher closed her tricorder and finished enteries into the biobed console. The smile on her face hardly subsided when she removed the diagnostic console from over the teenage boy below. She looked down at him and took note of his now closer to normal pupal dialation. The red haired doctor entered another notation and looked up at the chronometer.

The boy, who had been resting most of the afternoon, closed his eyes slowly and released a slow breath. Then he lifted his head and began to attempt to sit up on his elbows.

Turning to the sound one makes when trying to move in his condition, the good doctor resisted touching the boys shoulder. She could imagine the pain he might be feeling. After a long climb in the sun in the Pocono Mountains on Earth, he had lost energy, then his grip, and had fallen nearly twelve feet before his safety rope yanked him to a stop. But not before hitting several branches on the way down. The young man had suffered a dislocated shoulder, a broken finger, scrapes, bruises, and third degree rope burns in his palms.

Laying back again, the boy was thankful his mother served aboard a starship. He had heard many things about the USS Enterprise and its CMO from his mothers messages home. He and his sister Andrea relished the chances they had to spend summers onboard. Though this wasn't the way he wanted to spend this visit, he was glad to be there, none the less.

Dr. Crusher added an ampule to a hypo and administered the dose to the boys neck.

"That should help with the pain." Then a killer Dr. Crusher smile. "You have a visitor."

Moving aside, the doctor looked back at her patients sister, who was stepping forward carefully. A young Andrea Knlwtchr placed her hands carefully on the biobed and considered her brother.

"Didn't pack a lunch, did ya genius?"

Samuel's eyes glimmered as he shot back, "My servant slept in this morning."

A wide smile spred across Andrea's face as she looked down on Samuel. She watched as he slowly closed his eyes again. Then she turned her gaze on the bio readout above his bed. She stared, watching the screen strobe and flash as it updated every fifteen seconds...

...The biographical readout that was turning from side view to front view not only had human components, but was also now riddled with Borg implants.

Andrea blinked and broke the stare that had thrown her thoughts into memories of the past. She leaned in closer to read the drones ID number as her eyes welled up.

"Oh, Samuel."
