Brandon was born in Chicago to William and Laura Smith. From an early age Brandon loved to explore science.

 

When he turned 18, he attended Florida State University, where he majored in starship engineering with a minor in Astronomy.

 

Upon graduation he was invited to help in the design of the warp 5 complex, and he took a job as head of science system design for the first Warp 5 Capable ship, the Enterprise.

 

Before he was able to complete his duties, he was told that the Enterprise project would be pushed back 10 years. Not wanting to wait, he took a job as head of the Science Division at Starfleet. He ended up taking back the job he left.

 

He has worked to develop the science station on all 4 existing NX class ships, and he is currently designing the systems for the next 4, including the Challenger.
