Seiben

A hard day's night

Awake and refreshed, Seiben exits the lift and enters the Challenger's Main Engineering at 0728. Seiben must admit, that the construction of the Challenger has been progressing quite nicely indeed. Right now, the Challenger is basically a saucer, with the support beams showing where the hull plating has not yet been installed. But the construction of the support struts for the nacelles has just began not long ago.

And in Engineering, things have been progressing nicely. Since the mix up regarding some of the warpcoils in the factory, the project has become ahead of schedule. This resulted in less assignments for the workers, and higher morale die to less pressure and stress piled on them. Seiben places his punchcard through the machine and reports for duty at exactly 0730.

Seiben walks over to the warpdrive where most of his workers have gathered. "What's on the agenda today boss?" one asked. Seiben checked a PADD. "We are to work on the Matter/Antimatter reactor, and start connecting the Stage 2 and 3 plasma accelerators to the Stage 1 unit" A lot to do, Seiben admits, but the sooner the team is done the project, the sooner they get paid.

But so far though, the team worked well under the new longer hours. At about 0813, they were working on the Challenger's matter/anti-matter system. The M/AM reactor truly was a marvel of human technology. Though hindered by the Vulcans, the NX Class was the first human built ship to break the Warp 5 barrier, and stands as the Crown Jewel of the United Earth Space Navy Fleet.

Seiben begins hooking up the reactor connection wires throughout the reactor and various parts of the ship. By lunchtime at 1200, most of the connections have been made. After quickly wolfing down their sandwiches and drinks within the 10 minute timeslot, Seiben andhis team seperate. some working on the M/AM reactor and some starting to connect the plasma accelerators. As time passes the M/AM reactor is complete. Seiben flicks on the display screen on the warpdrive console.

Seiben begins programming some of the functions into the unit. He connects the wires to the reactor and tests out the readings, doing quality checks making sure everything works. With the readouts appearing normal, Seiben turns off the unit and makes some notes in his PADD.

Seiben calls down to his team in the lower decks where Accelerators 2 and 3 are. "How are you guys progressing?" he asked. "Good, sir" they replied.

That is superb thinks Seiben. To Seiben it was always rewarding to see everything piece together.

For, the future of Earth and the UESN lies within starships like these. This was already proven with the Enterprise. If more ships like these are constructed, Earth will fast become a player in space technology. By the time Seiben and his team went off duty for the day, Seiben and his team had completed most of the M/AM and warpdrive. He calucated that they were about 10 days ahead of schedule. And was Seiben craled into his blankets for the night, was just fine with him.
