Times

I noticed most of the times are after 9pm ET and 12am ET for the academy

These are late for me, close to midnight, are there any future earlier times, or am I reading these wrong?

you're reading them most accurately, all sims are around those times. Welcome to STSF :D

PS. there is a unofficial "offhours sim" every weekday at 5pm est. hope to see around :P

The reason for this is that the west coast is three hours behind, so those "late" times are only around eight and nine PM for them (they being many of the people who make Star Trek and STSF possible). I'm an Easterner too, and this can be vexing sometimes, but I've learned to adapt. Summer's coming soon, so I can participate later. Then when school rolls around . . .

Well, School ends June 11th for me but asking to use my comp at 9pm they would look at me like I had 3 heads. Summer coming makes it easyer to get to the 9:00 maybe. I think they should add a 7:00pm ET for people out east. Thats only 4:00 and some westys may be out of work sitting at home.

Jolan Tru,

Its' not that STSF doesn't want to have earlier Acadmies and Adv. Sims (this has been dicussed many many many many (you get the picture :D ) times.

And ::beats Fred and A-9, oh and Gromie to the punch:: as it has been said many times, right now it doesn't work out for our wonderful (and I mean that you guys are great!) GM's. So untill such time that it does, don't look for anything official.

Sadly, Dak is right. Most of the GMs have prior engagements/priorities, so right now, an Official earlier acad is out of the question. You can go to the 5:00 one, but that is unofficial and doesn't count towards graduation. Or you can go to the 9:00 PM EST Tues Acad. But that's the earliest Offical academy. Also, Advanced sims usually occur at 10PM, 11PM, or 12AM, so sadly even if you graduate you still gotta find some time in those late hours if you want a posting on advanced sim. :P It sucks, but what can you do? :D

THe 12:00 ones are out of the question. Maybe 10 but life isn't fair, I'm sure that sometime there may be an earlier one, cuz i hope there is, the later they are the less likely I'm gunna not bother coming

Hey there,

Just thought I'd point out there is an Academy sim Tuesdays at 9:00pm ET. :D

Yeah, I go to the Tuesday Academy and the Saturday one (which is at midnight, but being a Saturday I can stay up late). I also recommend the unofficial sims because they're great fun and great practice. They're at 5:00 PM eastern time in the holodeck.

I too have been wondering what will happen, not so much during the summer, but when school starts up again in September. I think I'll probably just make one exception for the night that my Advanced sim is on, because that's basically the only way I can do it.

Yeah. That's what I do...I also picked a sim, Reaent, which is near the end of the week, so things are sort of winding down. In the beginning you could find me at all the academies, but now I get a dose of simming, that lasts me the whole week.

Just here to help,

Lt. Brian Smith, M.d.

When I first started simming, I faught to get earlier times, but, if they had a sim at 8pm est, it would not allow most west coasters to play. And I thought, "Do they realy care if we have to stay up after midnight just to get our fix?"

But, I eventually gave up that idea, because I realized, I could stay up and sim, and if I can't fall asleep, I could watch Conan. And you know what, it worked. :D

If you feel the times are just to hard to make, you can always google for other simming groups. And don't worry, I've seen an actual sim at 8:30pm est. Oh, and if you can't always be sure that you can make a weekly game, you can play a PBEM sim.

Oh, and recently, some AA meetings have been cancled, but if you keep trying, eventually you'll perservier. Gotta go, AA meeting's coming up!

One last word: never give up hope. In the begining I campaigned for an Enterprise-era sim, and now they're starting one. But, it is at 11pm, so I kinda won the popular, but lost the electorial.

I never really understood why they call it Alcoholics Anonymous. The first thing you say is your name and everyone already knows why you are there. Not much anonymity there. :D

That's why I'm a drunk. Alcoholics have too many meetings to go to. :P

Anyone know any other Star Trek sim groups also?

I'd like to stay here, and maybe go to another one too.

I'm can't really do sims unless they're Star Trek (dungeon and Dragons was geeky[No offense to anyone who played])

You can easily look up Star Trek simming groups by using Google. Though I'll be honest .. this is by far the best simming group for Star Trek out there right now.

And D&D geeky? Never! :D

(It's only geeky if you play a cleric.. in my opinion. All you are is a glorfied nurse with a holy symbol! Mwah.)

The vast majority of us here are North American, so our tie zones are EST, cst, MST and PST. The majority of that though are of EST (Eastern Standard Time, or GMT -5).

Well, that's just great...*irony*

So the times on the schedule page is in GMT-5? In that case most SF Academy for me would be 5-6 AM...dammit!

Hey there,

Well, your not alone...we do have/had members participating who are in Hong Kong, Britian and other places. So it is possible to handle, though I will admit we'd have to probably see a massive influx of such people before we added a sim at like 10:00AM ET.

I'm not really good with timezones, but... the academy is on saturday at 12.00AM ET? You said that's GMT-5... So the academy starts at 5PM GMT? Is that correct?

now it doesn't work out for our wonderful (and I mean that you guys are great!)  GM's.

NDak's pretty much hit the nail on the head there. Many of us are parents, and have other obligations that we have to attend to prior to being able to get on the computer ourselves. Such as letting the kids have the computer for homework and reports. I know my kids school work comes before I allow myself time to play. I know several of us have kids that play on basketball, baseball, lacrosse, soccer and swimming teams. Some of us even are the coaches, so we have to be available and I know as a basketball coach, sometimes our games get pushed back, or if we're in a tourney, times and travel can make getting home in time for an early sim time impossible. Some of our people work late occassionally, I get stuck like this myself occasionally, and I know some of our people work evenings, and have to rush to get home as it is just to make the late sims. I know some of our other GM's are scout leaders and besides meetings, are committed to various activities related to such, that will keep them from making anything earlier. As time goes by, I'm sure that we'll get new GM's that will have some of these earlier times open, and something earlier may be created. However, on another note, earlier can also be a trap. Having seen a few earlier academy type games in our evolving past, earlier games often suffer from lack of players, especially in the summer, when it's still light out, people are at the beach, a ball game, catching a movie. And when school starts, the earlier sims again end up lacking players, because people are busy with their homework or helping their own kids with their homework.

So, for those of you wondering why we don't have earlier sims at this time, those are just a few of the reasons, but like I said, I'm sure we'll end up with something at an alternate time eventually, as we grow. Just have patience, we're still growing, and looking at new times as well.
