Science Systems

June 5th, 2154

Starfleet Science Services Building

Office of the Director

Adm. Brandon Smith, Commanding

Admiral Smith sat down in his office as he reviewed the final plans for the science systems to be fitted on the Callenger. Admiral Smith had earned his Ph. d. in warp physics, and he was known as a strong supporter of the Warp 5 complex. His job was to make sure that the ship was fitted with the finest in sensor technology.

He was looking at a plan of the bridge's science station, when his door opened, and a young lieutenant entered his office. It was Lieutenant John Decker the man that the Admiral had placed in charge of installing the science systems. He was also a good friend.

"Admiral, I see you've been reviewing the plans. What do you think of them."

"I think they're fantastic," he replied, "but don't you think we're 'borrowing' a little too much of the Vulcan's technology. Isn't it about time we create our own star charts. I'm sick of having to rely on the damn Vulcans so much, Jack!"

"Brandon, you know that they're not going to let that ship leave space dock without a Vulcan science officer."

"So you just expect us to sit back, while the Vulcan's just piggy-back on the work that our officers have done? We need to have our own officers behind that console...Not some pointy-eared smarty pants. Let them put a Vulcan at the helm, or in engineering, just not at science...Last I checked, we were the explorers."

He took a PADD of his desk. "Install your systems...I'll see about getting a science officer onto that ship. If push comes to shove...I may have to send you."

The lieutenant walked out the door, and the Admiral sat back in his chair and finished drinking his coffee.

This is my first post about the Challenger. I may be interested in joining.

I hope you guys don't get mad at me for creating a character that's an admiral.

Smith
