Project Roster

I've assembled a list of everyone who's contributed so far, including the names of the characters, their message board handles (in case you want to PM them to arrange a joint log... hint hint), and their roles. Anyone interested in writing can use this to get an idea of what roles are available. The list will be updated as more contributions are made. If there's anything inaccurate here, please let me know.

Just going from the recent posts this list might already be out of date. Will there be updates posted?

Also, just so I know who I *might* be serving with when the ship actually launches, can we get a list of people who are interested in what positions? I'm assuming this ship will have more than Engineers and Ambassadors and Admirals.

What parts are out of date? The list has been edited several times. I've only excluded characters who appear to have supporting roles in the logs. If any of the authors feel that one of these characters should be mentioned, let me know.

Also, the list is not meant to have any bearing on who is eventually assigned to the live sim. Anyone joining the sim may use a character they've already created here, but posting will be handled separately. This roster is only intended to help new contributors choose roles and existing contributors find someone to write a joint log with.

There will certainly be more than just engineers. On this list, everyone from Rawel down to Travis has a role that is either not limited to engineering or doesn't involve engineering at all. Those people might join the sim... they might not... people not on the list may join. Who knows. ::Shrugs:: The only position it seems that no one's gone after yet is medical. :D

Engineers are obviously going to play the biggest role in the construction of the ship. I know that my two characters, Rawel and Rawel, will not be joining the ship for its voyages. They will remain behind, one a rebel and the other a rebel or computer programmer depending on where my logs take me.

I haven't decided whether or not I'll apply for a post in September, it all depends on my schedule.

Then I guess I'm a bit confused. Are you saying that the play-by-email portion of the sim during construction has nothing to do with who will serve on the ship, the race that character holds, and in what role?

Let's say, for example, that as the current plot plays out the Romulans succeed in making the Andorians look like the bad guys in that ship explosion, and Andoria and Earth/Vulcan go to war as the Challenger nears completion as a result. I am a representative of the Andorian government much the same way that T'Pol was a representative of the Vulcan government. But if our governments are at war doesn't that make me inelligible to serve on a Pink Skin ship? You certainly wouldn't give the enemy a Tactical/Intelligence position which is what my character wants.

And doesn't that person standing behind me in my avitar kinda look like a Borg Queen?

To an extent, that's the case. Creating a character and writing logs during the summer construction period doesn't guarantee that that character will be posted and get the spot he/she wants when the live sim launches. The only thing that will decide where everyone is posted is the application process, and that's still three months off. There's no telling where the play-by-mail process will take us by that time. And not everyone can get their first choice for a position, especially if it's a Bridge post. That's why we're encouraging you to keep your options open. You're free to create as many characters as you'd like until then, and you're not required to use any of them on the live sim.

Once you receive a position on the live sim, then you can decide what character you want to fill it, and Moose and I will be very flexible there. Even if, say, hostilities were to break out between Earth and Andor, there would still be ways to bring an Andorian character aboard. As a defector, perhaps.

We need some security! My computer lab keeps on getting trashed because the roster is devoid of any security personnel.

Yes, we're saying exactly that. Otherwise we'd be launching a ship full of Ambassadors, Terrorists, and bartenders. : )

This summer's play-by-email portion of the game is open to all members of the STSF (whether they want to join the game when it goes live or not), and chronicals the details leading up to the launch of the Challenger, NX-05. If you create a character that you'd like to take on the journey, we'll talk about that in the fall when we start building the actual ship's roster.

In the mean time, it's a forum wide project that everyone is invited to participate in.

Thank you everyone who has. I hope more people find time as the summer progresses.

It seems like it's a bit premature to be seeking intended positions. I have no idea whether I will want to continue this character when the sim starts in September. It's somewhat dependent on how much RL time I have available, and when. During the summer, though, it's a chance to build a character I might not otherwise have gotten a chance to play.
