Background: Melina Aurelia Amakiir was born, the first child to the Amakiirs, on Stardate 8302.14. From birth her entire life had been laid out for her, from her daily routines to the man she was to marry when the time had come. Melina, because she was the first born daughter, was destined to take over the throne of Llirran. As a young girl, the idea of being a princess and heiress was greatly appealing to her. But as she and her siblings got older, she realized she was envious over the freedom they would have in their own life decisions. It was a luxury she did not have.

 

When Melina was 15, the Federation made their first appearance to the planet of Luciena II. The planet had peaked the Federation's interest by showing an almost equal technology, knowledge and a rich culture. Teams from the orbiting starships visited the royal families of each province and it's cities to get to know the planet's inhabitants better. Melina's parents held a great banquet in honor of the guests and the future dealings that would be made with the Federation. Melina sat there and heard great and glorious stories of other worlds and the great Starfleet. Melina decided then and there that she wanted to be a part of it all. But that was easier said than done. When she casually mentioned her interests in Starfleet to her parents, they scoffed at the 15 year old girl. They explained her duty to the monarchy and to her people. Also, abandoning royal duties could be punished by extreme measures if the person was caught. It crushed Melina. She did not want this life she was born into. But she hid her true feelings well. Over the next year, without her parents knowledge.. she gathered information on the Academy for the great Starfleet and she even managed to take the entrance exam via subspace from home. At 17 she was accepted to the Academy. Having been planning well in advance, she had taken the exam under the assumed name of Peyton Summers. A few weeks after being accepted, Melina Amakiir boarded a transport in the evening; under the guise of visiting a cousin on a neighboring planet's colony and never came back. Peyton Summers arrived for the first day of the Academy, a young woman's future looking bright.

 

Peyton's Academy years went well. She found a love for, and excelled at, Engineering, and she graduated high in her class to go onto the USS Arcadia, as an Engineering officer. There she resides.
