German efficiency

Gunter Seiben gazed out of the windows straight at the mass of metal frame work that will eventually be the UESN's newest ship, the NX-class Challenger. Though Seiben has seen ships in various stages of assembly before for his job at General Electric, it never ceased to amaze him that something so messy and out of place would eventually be a starship housing hundreds of people across the cosmos.

"She's not much to look at now, soon she'll be part of Earth's last line of defense" a deep, authorative voice said. Seiben turned around at the imposing figure and snapped to attention, quickly remembering that civilians need not stand at attention for Starfleet Officers.

"I have no doubt of that, sir." Said Seiben. "I just hope we can finish on schedule. We're not exactly the most well-liked race in the galaxy. Especially amongst the Klingons and Romulans" Admiral Forrest nods. "That's exactly why we're stepping up production. Though the Xindi probe had been destroyed by the Enterprise, there still are many alien races we still have to worry about.

"And now, with the Enterprise missing, we don't have a line of defense. Which brings me to my next question. Will the installation of thw warpcore be on schedule?" asked Forrest. Seiben nodded. "Yes sir. My crew was already arrived, and the warpcore itself is now being removed from the delivery shuttle. We shall begin construction soon" He replied.

"Great, Mr. Seiben. Get to it then" replied Admiral Forrest. Seiben nodded, and with that, the Admiral left Seiben alone. Seiben then walked to the elevator and took it down to the construction yard. Seiben dons his hardhat and GE EVA Suit, and takes the shuttle to the Challenger construction site. Seiben has been working for GE for a few years now, and was just promoted to the position of Chief Technician in the Warpcore Division.

The shuttle soon docks with the Challenger and Seiben exits the shuttle and out into the Challenger's hallways. Wires and girder panels are everywhere and Seiben has to watch his step wherever he goes. Ooh boy. Seiben thinks. This ship is supposed to be spaceworthy by September? Good luck, guys. Seiben smirks looking at the construction workers welding away throughout the corridor.

Seiben shrugs and is guided to Engineering. Engineering was pretty much just an empty void. Seiben and see wires and support beams everywhere, and crew were beginning to install various consoles. It wasn't so bad, compared to the exterior, but there still was a large gaping hole exposing the outer space. Seiben met up with his construction team.

"The warpcore engine is ready to be installed, sir" one of the crewman said. Seiben nodded gave the orders to bring it in. A small crane then began to bring the warpcore in. Seiben looked up at the beautiful big warpcore and guided the operators to correctly place the device. Though the warpdrive isn't 100% assembled yet, it still was a pretty sight.

The construction crew begin to weld the warpdrive to its mountings. Seiben nodded, and rubbed his hands. "Well fellas, now the fun begins! We only have 3 months to put this puppy together, so let's get to it!" With that, Seiben's construction team set about with their construction around Engineering.

Seiben and his crew know they'll have a lot of work ahead of them. Can they really get this ship up and running in 3 months time? Seiben won't know that until the Challenger undergoes her sea trials, but that is a long time away. Seiben's job and the reputation of GE is are both on the line in this project, so Seiben can't afford to fall behind schedule. This is gonna be a tough task, requiring German efficiency and know how.

Seiben and his crew begin the long process of welding the drive to it's moorings on the floor, while parts continue to flood in, thus begiining the effort to make Challenger operational. It'll take all his crew got, but by god, they will get it done by the September 12 deadline.
