::Attracts Attention to Newcomer (me)::

Hello, I'm Tachyon and I'm a new member of STSF. I just thought I might introduce myself so that when people see me in a sim they'll know who I am. Obviously I'm going to start some Academy sims soon, it looks great. I'm a big fan of Star Trek. My favourite posts to play would probably be Ops or Tactical.

I just have two questions for now:

1. Where do I post my logs? Which forum?

2. How do I indicate an out of character message? Eg: my cat begins to systematically claw itself up my leg. What sort of symbols can I use to say:

"Guys, my cat's clawing itself up my leg, so I'm going to disappear and sort it out."

Or something to that effect. Or do I use no symbols at all.

Thank you, and good night.

Well, first of all welcome to STSF. I hope you have an enjoyable time with us. Please check the Schedule for upcoming acadmies, and take note that the academies will be cancelled from Friday to Monday due to the Memorial Day Holiday. Check the Help section, and Tips from the Moose for extra help, or ask a GM or player if you require assistance. As to your questions...

1. Log writing isn't absolutely neessary until you are posted on an Advanced ship after you graduated from academy. Cadets are not expected to write logs. There are sections for each avanced ship and you can post your log there, again once you graduate from academy and are given a post on board.

2. Off topic, or out of character actions are depicted by "<< >>"s eg. <<sorry, I g2g, I'm having dinner now>> it is encouraged to use the OOC symbols, for off topic material as it distracts from the sim.

Hope that helps.. once gain, welcome.. and hope to see you around in Academy.

Oh, one more thing. Your favourite position might be Tac and OPS, but it is strongly reccomended you branch out and try other positions too. (like Eng, or Sec). That's because, if you wish to be posted on an Advanced ship, Tactical or OPS most likely (about 90% of the time) is already taken, leaving you no choice but to choose something else. At least then, you can familiarise yourself with another posting and have something to fall back on if TAC and OPS are taken. ;)

Am I the ONLY person in this forum that doesn't have a cat? What is it with Star Trek fans and cats?

Not only do we have cats... some of us SIM them! ;)

Tachyon, if you do want to write Academy logs, this would be the folder to post them in, the STSF Academy folder. A few have been posted here already. Like Seiben said, though, it's not a requirement. Welcome to the group. ^_^

Hope to see you around the Acads. :D

PS: Don't Listen to anything they say bad about us Rihans. We are just VASTLY misunderstood ;)

Thanks for the tips. I've already read Moose's Tips and found them greatly helpful. And I played an informal sim late tonight. I'll be sure to look out for those 5 PM ones, and I'm probably going to start attending the Academy tomorrow. If not, ASAP.

Thanks for the recommendation about branching out. I fully intend to, as I enjoy this RP enough that I find I like the other positions. So I hope to see all of you around.

Hey there,

First, welcome to STSF Tach. Hope you enjoy yourself. ;)

Second, no Mr. Vanroy, I don't have a cat. Though I used to have one and a relative of mine at one point had 18 of them. ^_^

I don't have a cat. I have two little finch birds that constantly want to mate. I actually would LIKE to have a cat, but I am unwilling to pay my $300 pet desposit. ;)
