It's Good to be Queen

File 197-804FB6

Emergency power re-animated this unit once life forms were detected on board cube 1087-56C. I had been keeping myself in a suspended state up until now to reserve the little power we have left.

The life forms that boarded were mostly unremarkable, except for one specimen from species 1637. Her designation was Hayden Dacotah.

I sent communications out on several frequencies for which her species was known to be sensitive. Her mind is not as guarded as others of her race. Her sensitivity to the thoughts and suggestions of others allowed her to hear me, and my promise to help her control those voices kept her with me.

She mentioned previous contact with the Borg, but I can not spare the power to access our data files for a cross-reference tag. Whether her trauma came from us or from others is irrelevant. She is a suitable candidate.

She expressed a desire to help her companions in their mission, and I have allocated all of our power reserves to that task. The life forms have provided far better proof of our mission than I could have arranged on my own. Their actions were haphazard and chaotic, even when in agreement on their task. Their petty disagreements and bickering, their confusion due to different experiences and points of view, these all highlighted their lack of order.

She had no implants, so I granted her access to an external neural amplifier. She first used it to provide data to them in response to their queries. From there, it was a simple step to using our equipment to guide their actions. Yet they still resisted, and were unsuccessful even though she laid the answers down in front of them.

She is awash in data, trying to provide them with as much information as she can. But it will prove to be too much for them to process. She will soon see that the only way to help them is to think for them. Only one mind can be allowed to choose, to interpret. Only one mind can unify disparate life forms and coordinate them in harmony. Only one mind can bind them into a force stronger than its parts.

She is on the verge of accepting this decision for herself. Once she does, she will be ready to accept the implant from me. After that, I can allow my present biological material to expire, knowing that the collective will still function. I estimate it will do better than that. The collective will thrive.
