OK, seriously now, while I think an "official logo" would be cool to have, what would we do with it? I'm asking because with everything else the GMs are working on that provide a tangible benefit to the forum we should have an actual use for the logo if we expect them to spend time on it.

To be honest, I think it's a neat idea, Vex (in fact, I understand this is currently being discussed at another forum as well, are you responsible for that one, too?) Anyway, some folks may recall our attempt to "brand" ourselves about a year ago and it didn't really fly, at the time. Maybe we can try again.

 

How about this. People can submit logo ideas into a different thread (I'll announce it later, don't post them here yet). Once we have at least 15 serious entries (no coconut bras please), the GM Council would look them over and pick the top 3 or 5 that best represent us. These would be displayed on a new thread/topic for all members to vote on. The winning logo would be used on the site and possibly as advertisments elsewhere. The votes would not be in poll form, but in individual messages. This way, we only have one vote per real person (you would not get to vote more than once, no matter how many Board names you have).

 

Some basic rules for this contest would be:

1. No copyrighted material (very important)

2. All unique work (please do not submit anything to us that is also being submitted to other contests)

3. It should say "STSF" and/or "Star Trek™ Simulation Forum"

4. Think in terms of a graphic that can be used as a banner or a corner icon

5. Any winning entry becomes the property of STSF

 

I'll probably think of more rules for the contest (oh, stop moaning!), but for now the question is...

 

Is there enough interest in a logo contest??

 

That is the question to answer here.

My dorm hall council in college wanted to get a logo so we could put it on a T-shirt and sell them. At the time my college had a popular T-shirt with the college logo and besides it was the quote "It's all good."

 

My idea was to use the college logo, tweak it a little bit so we didn't break the college's copyright (which might not have even been a factor since we were part of the college anyway but I figured it was better to be safe), and instead of "It's all good." my quote was "Some of it sucks. - Sierra Madre Hall"

 

Hey, don't laugh! It would have been a money maker for us! My design was picked as one of the final two, and the council vote resulted in a tie! That's right, our elitist dorm council gave serious consideration to a T-shirt design that poked fun at themselves!

 

We finally had to bring in the residence hall coordinator to break the tie. Obviously she chose the other option. The winning design didn't sell a single T-shirt and they ended up giving them away.

We will definitely announce the winner's name, heck, we can stick it in the home page Announcements box and the news, but the person's name will not carry with it wherever the logo goes, since it will be STSF's property then.

A lot of artists are waaay to picky about their graphics...demanding links to their websites whereever its posted, a huge box of credits on the image. They'd be happiest if their logo submission looked like this:

 

 

Note that is not my logo submission! hehehe.

 

You should all know my policy by now...if I make it and put it on the net, its up for grabs ;)

 

I don't think anyone expects their name splashed all over the logo.

I think if theres a general interest and you announce the contest on the main homepage, you'll get a ton of entries.
