Science Department Report 030126.5

Sivuk of Vulcan

USS Raeant NCC 3345-G

As the Raeant continues to investigate abandoned Romulan outpost Herio V, the data retrieved from the probe has led Ensign Goad to determine that the storms on the surface are artificial, yet we have yet to determine the cause or the reason.  Fortunately the storms abated enough for the away team to return.  However, Ensign Kroells is suffering from some malady, possibly contracted while on the surface.

While there, Ensign Kroells stumbled upon a cryogenics area, and one viable cryounit, which he activated for revival.  However, he was not able to stay to observe the life form when it emerged.  He reported it as being of a gelatinous substance.  Given Ensign Kroell's present condition, I can see the wisdom of Commander Ridire's order to evacuate; it is entirely possible that his malady was contracted from the life form inside the unit.

Why the Romulans did not report these problems when the station was abandoned is also a mystery.  It seems that we have generated more questions than answers during our investigation.  These problems have led me to question if it is wise to continue.  In the interest of science it is logical that we proceed, yet the danger to the crew dictates that we abandon the facility and post a warning beacon.
