The Manticore was ordered to investigate a strange energy signal

on Mars. A regular energy pulse began "transmitting" from

four miles (6.4 km) down the Ganges Chasma. The Science

shuttle was sent, but destroyed, by a beam weapon from deep in

the Chasma. A second away team has descended into the chasm

in just EVA suits and grav belts. They are halfway to their target.
