A Date With Destiny

“A Date with Destiny”

Log entry 43 SD: 10405.11

Seiben sits in the small uncomfortable seat on the freighter Raknor IV both wondering what Admiral Blurox and Capitan Kania would do to him and Apollo, and more importantly, figure out how to sneak on board the Republic and get to the Battle Bridge without anyone noticing him.

Seeing that he and Apollo caused that near disaster on the Aegis, Seiben felt it was absolutely imperative that he succeed in getting in unnoticed. The Raknor IV was still a few hours away from Deep Space 9, so he had some time to think. It was explained that, under no circumstances that anyone meet up with their duplicate counterparts currently on board the Republic.

Seiben knew that would be unlikely. Fortunately for him, Seiben was on the Main Bridge the entire time of the Republic’s stay on Deep Space 9. He would not leave the bridge until the away mission at that planet with the mutated Bajorans, well after the collision and well after the Republic was jolted into that wormhole. . It was just a matter of Commander Kwai giving Seiben access to the Battle Bridge controls without anyone on the Main Bridge noticing.

Well, that and actually getting to the Battle Bridge unnoticed. Seiben shifted in his seat and sipped a glass of Earl Grey tea. To his recollection, nobody was occupying the Battle Bridge or the deck it was on at the time. Seiben would have to lay low and be stealthy in getting to the ship and the Battle Bridge.

Seiben pondered in thought, and soon came up with an idea: Lieutenant Mats Sundin and Seiben both looked almost identical. One could not tell each other apart unless one got a good long look at them both. Lt. Sundin was an Engineer, and Seiben’s friend from when Seiben served as an Engineer on the Republic. He also knew that Lt. Sundin snuck out of the Republic to visit Deep Space 9 without permission to buy some vodka and beer from the Promenade at Deep Space 9.

Seiben knew this because he asked Sundin to get him a case of Jack Daniels whiskey while he was there, in exchange for his silence. Thus, with Sundin out of the picture and no one knowing, Seiben could easily masquerade as him, also saving Sundin’s bacon in the process.

With his fresh new idea brewing in his head, he waited for an opportune moment to ask Kania and Blurox about it. However, Blurox was still unconscious and Kania was still in the process of treating her wounds. Seiben felt the soft thrums of the freighters engine’s and drifted off to sleep. Seiben had a date with destiny, and he hoped this time, he’d be ready for the part.
