Merged Thread: Non-official events

89 posts in this topic
Hey, gotta a favor to ask. Please check the schedule before trying to get everyone in the room to "start' an unofficial sim.

Last night following the Thursday Night Academy, the RES Talon had some trouble getting our regularly scheduled sim started, when we had people in the room trying to start an 'un-official' sim at that time.

I think it's great that some of you want to get together and do some more simming.  However, it's not fair to the crews of the Advanced Sims to disrupt their normal sim time, by having some of you  trying to start a sim in the room while we're already there trying to run our Mission Briefing to the screen. There was more of a delay, while we had to explain in PM's why there couldn't be an un-official sim at that time.

Just please check the schedule is all I'm asking.

Thank-you.

Blu

Good point. The Academy Afterhours is actually before hours...5pm EST. This time was chosen to offer an alternative to later simming...but not replace the evening academies (as they are REQUIRED) for graduation. This is the only organized (and I use the term loosely :) ) non-sanctioned sim that I am aware of. I will add something to my post in the academy regarding sim times to help prevent this...especially if it is interferring with MY advanced sim...

PS. I spoke with the individual and explained when times were available as well as the risks taken in interupting the "BLU" one

Tell me more about this after hours academy please?

Hmmmmmmmm...not sure what else to say..Cheatle Vosh Tovan and myself act as MG's (mission guides) try to run it as close to STSF guidelines as possible while providing additional time for East Coast residents to enjoy an earlier sim... participation permitting.

<_< That is about it.

;) Hope to see you around.

Love the idea of an earlier academy sim. Great way to let cadets and experienced players practice their typing and simming skills, and use of command structure and protocal. I'll be there a bit during the week. Hope to see everyone there. <_<

Glad you like it, Zaph'. I appreciate your attendance, as well as your input. The more experienced players we have to help the cadets, the better the overall quality will be...in ALL the academies. That was what Tovan and I were trying to accomplish. Again, thanks for the kind words...see you around the academies

Again, I invite all simmers (old and new alike to the Holodeck, weekdays at 5pm EST...we are developing a new respect in our MG efforts for our STSF GM's <_<

Its harder than it looks.

What I mean by that is a person who could help out by doing the roster and making Action commands these two jobs to me our run by a GM it dosen't have to be a STSF official GM just someone who could be a GM for this game if that makes any sense

::still trying to get organized::

Thank you

Cheatle

couldn't someone who's experianced enough be the "unoffical" GM for the "unoffical" sim(s)

If you asked around I think you'd find a lot of folks who are GMs in other groups, former GMs, and experienced simmers with prior GM training that could assist you.

::whistles:: <_<

I've watched a couple of the unofficial sims and they look like fun! Plus, they're earlier in the day...which helps for some folks. Heck, if the unofficial sim folks show that theres enough traffic and interest at that earlier time, you might just see an earlier official academy appear! You never know!

Ok for the Unofficial sim purpose we call our GMs MGs stands for Mission Guides.

This is so we (MGs) aren't confused with the Official GMs.

By the way if you are looking to become a MG pittykitty just give Tovan, Vosh, or me a PM stating that you would like to become one and we will get back to you

Thank you

Folks... I've been combining several topics relating to this one into this thread. Please keep all discussion regarding non-santioned events to this thread.

Originally discussion of non-santioned events were not even permitted on these boards, but we're trying to be a little more accomodating. So please try to keep general discussion of it in this thread and any reports you wish to post about it in the other thread remaining open on it.

Thank you for your cooperation.

I think these open sims are great.

But when you start assigning specific "MG"s to run them, it kind of looks like its starting to form a structured group within a group. I think it should remain unorganized...since I doubt STSF would want to allow a seperate group to grow inside itself.

Acutally you sorta kinda need a little bit of structure to really operate a sim no matter if its Official or Unofficial. We arn't trying to grow and make any group other than being members of STSF. Its just we like to sim and we found a place to do it at and let others join that like to sim as well and maybe just maybe if the if STSF personel sees that we can have good attendence they may speed up the process of making a earlier gaming time for us easterners.

Thank you

Thanks Webbie! As I stated, this was never and is not intended to replace any acedemies in the evening. It is simply an alternative time for Easters to get together along with other cadets and have fun.

The extra experience for cadets will only improve the overall quality of ALL the academies. Im sure the cadets would rather make mistakes in academy afterhours when not being judged... ;) ...officially.

Again, we appreciate all your help and understanding. As far as structure...some degree of semi-organization is required to make things run semi-smoothly...

My schedule doesn't allow me to participate in these unofficial sims, but here's my $0.02 anyway.

For a sim to be fun rather than confusing you do need a certain amount of structure. If the best way to have that structure is with what you are calling an MG then so be it. However, that doesn't mean you have to have the same MG every time. You can rotate them, take volunteers on the spot, or whatever.
