How do you find RPGers?

Hi. I have a new Pbem RPG but am having trouble finding players. I was wondering how do you find players? I have done all the recruitment sites I know of and everyone tells me people are interested in Romulans, but I still don't get takers. Any thoughts or ideas?

My advise would be to join an existing group (hint hint), either a live play or pbem group.

After you get to know people, you'll have a pool of players to approach about your idea.

It just so happens that the STSF has a live action Romulan sim, the RES Talon. You should check it out.

I agree with Moose, but with one added comment:

Feel free to speak with folks here offline (i.e., in e-mail, but not on the Boards) if you'd like, you may find some people who like RPbM - and you may find that you like live chat-based sims (hint hint hint). However, if you try to recruit for your game here, your postings will be removed as we do not support recruiting for other sim groups on our Boards.

Jolan Tru and Aefvahd (Hello and Welcome)!!

Why don't you come check out our Rihannsu (Romulan) sims?!! We do meet for about an hour online each week, sometimes a few minutes more, and then the rest of our interaction is by email and on the Star Trek Simulation Forum boards. (Here)

We run an advanced sim (The RES Talon) on Thursday nights at 11pm EST, that you are welcome to come watch, but must graduate from our academy first before actually joining.

Also, every other Monday night at 10 PM EST, sometimes we're a week off, we run a Rihannsu Retore ( Romulan Academy Sim) which is open to all new players. Many of the Advanced Sim Romulans like to come and take part in that sim as well. We'd love for you to come check us out and join us if you'd like.

Well...

I wouldn't necessarily say "forget e-mail" simulations. Some people don't have the time to commit an hour at the same time each week. E-mail sims have their own positive and negatives, but STSF only uses live chat anyway.

I will echo what A9 said here. Become established somewhere and then consider going off on your own once you've established some relationships. There are many organizations out there to fit your simming style. In my humble opinion, STSF is the best I've ever been involved in.

Ecurai has most likely stumbled into our humble forums via ST.com.

STSF does not currently run Pbem sims. If that's what you are interested in, there are many other groups out there that do have such simulations. STSF is (at least at the moment) a live-chat only sim.

If you are interested in PBems I would recommend you visit http://www.slasims.com or http://www.sb254.com, two well run and large groups that feature many PBems.

If you have the time, I would suggest also that you check out STSF's live-chat simulations. While a very different format than Pbem, they are very exciting and its quite fun to interact with your crewmates live.

Chat-sims are the best simming format, in my humble opinion. Good luck and I hope you decide to join STSF :)

Btw, I would like to add that despite A9s suggestion...I would not e-mail members of this group that you do not know personally to join your sim. Many consider it inappropriate to attempt to recruit for a non-group game within a group, and some won't appreciate random recruitment offers.

I would like to thank all of you for your comments. I was not attempting to recruit here but thought some of you may have advice. As for myself, I can only do PBEM because I both work and attend school so being online at one time isn't possible for me. I am a member of several PBEM's myself but this is the first one I am trying to run. So thanks for the advice, and hints to those who gave them.

Word of mouth. That's pretty much the best way to recruit for anything, be it an RPG or a club or a job.

::raises hand::.........me, too. Well, if you call it work, I mainly look at a computer screen all day...WAY too much free time...

Anyway...you should try the sims...just to see. If all you can do is Email...then, do what you must.

Good luck.
