Different Chat Names

I was in the acadamy sim today when someone asked me what me rank was. I thought this was obvious to others, but then I saw some others who had ranks attached to thier names, like Ens_Arron_Westler who once used Cdt_Arron_Westler.

I have just created an account Cdt_Will_Laiden that I might use from now on in sims; I will still use this account (William Laiden) for forum posting. Does everyone do something similar? Do you all just make new accounts for in chat and just use one forum account?

Thanks for un-confusing me.

You might have better luck looking at your computer.

Although you can automatically make your board name the same as your chat name most people don't. The STSF chat rooms do not require you to have an "account" to use the chat interface, just to post messages on this board. Just type whatever name you want to chat under and leave the password field blank.

The only real advantage to creating a name/password combo for the chat rooms is it prevents others from logging in as you. But it isn't a requirement.

Also,

Well adding 'Cadet' to your name might help others in the sim know what rank you are....but not that It really matters in Acad (except to the GM's who you have to tell you are a Cadet) becuase unless specifed by the GM team...we are all cadets in the Academy Sims...

Thi also brings up something interesting....what a Pain in the neck it will be once we return to Trek.Com. Becuase, unlike here, you have to have a User name to sign onto the chat interface. Looks I will need to get another name or two for my new characters..... :)

IF we return to Trek.com....

and, as you can see, i haven't changed my name from Cadet to 2nd Lt./Ensign Holden. Just do whatever you think will "un-confuse" you.

And Will, the plants aren't gonna help ya too much :) :)

As a mid-level resident new-comer, I have never used the StarTrek.com rooms. Im perfectly fine with continuing to use the STSF rooms. However, if legalities dictate their return...so be it.

If it aint broke...then dont let my son touch it... :)

The Star Trek.com Rooms weren't that bad anyway. And I hear the ones they have setup for the Book/Actor Chats are quite nice.

Yeah, indeed they were. I attended the Scott Baluka chat on the ST.com rooms awhile back ago, and I must say that I was impressed.. it looked far different from the old Startrek.com chatrooms I've grown accustomed to. I just hope, we're able to say cockroach, and blow or we'll be seeing alot of stars for our Hood sim, and in Dac's Academies . :)
