Travis Kroells

Points of Authority pt. 2

“Points of Authority pt.2”…Kroells’s logs (log 68)

Session 2.

The soil pattered against the wood as Travis awoke with a shock. His breathing uneven as he attempted to figure out where he was. A soft bed, warm walls. He was no where near where he was before. He continued to looked around, panic stricken, as more and more objects entered his memories. A sick feeling entered Kroells. He had been here before, under less…stress full times. The few times he spent under this bed, with some one that wasn’t here no more. Kayla’s room…

But…how the hell did he wind up here?

The thought was purged out of his mind, as his gut reminded him of last night’s transgressions. He quickly rushed into the bathroom, his stomach quickly up heaving. Some time passed, then a little more, and after that some more. Travis finally mustered up the courage to leave the familiar room, and venture ‘round.

Up stairs was clear, as well as ground floor. Travis found the house empty, much to his confusion. He ventured into the kitchen, to find a note on the table.

“Don’t know how or why your back in town, but welcome back, usual entrance we see.”

Travis gave an odd chuckle at the note. Kayla’s parents. The only two who really understood, and accepted what had happened, even if Travis couldn’t. The relationship between Travis and the two had been horribly strained after Kayla’s death… in fact he hadn’t even spoken with them since he joined the Reaent. They must have found him past out in God knows where…

Some compassion still at least…

He didn’t know how long they’d be gone. He intended to leave before they got back. Travis wasn’t quite up for idle chat, at least not now. He spent some more time around the house. Taking a shower, and lounging for a short time, deciding against shaving off the four day grain that had developed on his face.

He walked out into the back yard, bare footed, wearing a pair of loose fitting paints, and form fitting white tank top. He walked up to a large stone sticking out of the ground, cut smooth. He slowly read the words on it, and slumped down behind it, resting his back on the stone. He sighed for a moment contemplating what to say…

“I’m going to leave you know…”

A small amount of time past before a feminine voice responded. “Why’s that?”

Travis sighed. “No real point in staying. I never joined Starfleet to rise up the ranks on fly around in a starship, and at the same time, the thing I did join to achieve seems impossible now.”

The voice chuckled. “And what’s that?”

“I don’t really know to tell you the truth…Maybe enlighten myself… “To go boldly where no man has gone before”…But then again, I’ve already done that.”

The female voice chuckled. “You were always one to boast.”

Travis smiled. “Heh, I needed something to counter act being demoted.”

The voice groaned. “How’d you manage that?”

Travis sighed. “Something about disobeying an order three times. I don’t really remember, I was resisting the urge to gab scientific equipment into his eyes at the time.”

“Nice…”

Travis chuckled. “Yeah I know! This is what I get for sticking up for my morals. I get shot by my captain, and then demoted. I’m serious, I had plenty of equipment in my coat that I could have stabbed him with.”

“So why didn’t you?”

Travis sighed. “Oh, something about being in on a penal colony the rest of my life that didn’t have any appeal.”

The voice sighed. “Well then, I guess there isn’t much I can say except leave. I mean, if you don’t think you can handle it, there’s no need to go out there and put yourself and others in danger.”

Travis chuckled. “Oh, and people said you were the optimistic of the two of us… Wait! I can handle it! Of course I can…I’m like the handler of handling things!”

“…Well then stay. Prove it to yourself and to every one else…”

Travis sighed again. “You make an interesting point…”

The voice chuckled. “Of course I am, I’m just a manifestation of you consciousness using Kayla’s voice.”

Travis laughed out loud. “Oh sure, give away the end wont you? Yeah…I think I’ll stay. I’ll prove to every one that I have what it takes…It’ll also annoy Fred out of his chair when I prove him wrong.”

The voice chuckled once again as Travis stood up. “I always win these little conversations.”

Fin.
