Dodging the bullet, well, more like the blade

Juhdia dressed and headed back to the Excalibur, he didn’t even bother leaving a note, after all the centuries, why even bother. As Juhdia headed for the Promenade he suddenly felt the hairs on the back of his neck stand on edge and his teeth began to tingle.

 

“I know you’re there Wallace. And don’t even bother, I’m unarmed.” Juhdia checked his pocket, there was his type one Phaser. “Well, unarmed for our kind of battle.”

 

Wallace stepped into the light, “I’ve come for you Juhdia, sword or no sword. I will have your head.”

 

Juhdia shook his head, “Wallace, you’re about three centuries to late. I have resigned from the Gathering.” Juhdia leaned forward towards Wallace, “But if you must. Take my head. Be known as the Immortal that killed Juhdia. An unarmed Juhdia.”

Wallace flew into a rage, “No one can resign from the Gathering, it is our cast in life! It is what we do.”

 

Juhdia almost smiled. “Wallace, you still haven’t figured it out have you. We make our own fate, if the cast we draw in life is to lead to our own destruction. Then we must simply draw another cast. And decide for ourselves what we do. So again. If you must take my head, then do so.”

 

Juhdia stood there for about a minute then he looked up and Wallace was gone, but his sword was on the ground.
