Trek game I'm working on...

236 posts in this topic

How do you increase your class ship. I got a message saying I should build a new type of starship, but I don't know how.

Also, once I had 9 ships, and I went to build the 10th, it kept on starting over and over.

Yeah, Darrik, that's the same looping problem I had. Vex is trying to fix that.

Nope just a hobby. ^_^

Ha! I've got Starship Creator, where you can build your own ships and then fly predetermined missions. The game, while interesting for about seventeen minutes, gets boring after you realize that you can't really do much unless you write your own missions.

Its mission graphics looked like they had been done in Flash, they resembled your starships. But overall, FlashTrek is much more interesting than Starship Creator ever could be. (And the Romulan Wars graphics are twice as good as anything Creator ever churned out!)

So keep up the good work.

The ship graphics in FlashTrek are not created from scratch by me. I've done a lot of editting with them, but the ships are from rotating animated GIFs. I can't take credit for that. And the stations and other things are usually pieced together from other images, like from the Trek magazine. So the great graphics are in no way thanks to me ^_^ I sure wish I could find out who authored them tho.

I just put up a new update...I wanted to see what you guys thought of the ship building and upgrading design I came up with.

I changed it around a bit. Instead of beaming your resources to the station and it building a ship automatically, you can beam resources to the station and it will stockpile them until you're ready to build.

To build something theres a small gray X at the bottom right corner. That will pop up a menu. You can build any ships you research in that era (currently the ENT era). I like that idea because you can build older ships cheaper and quicker if you need them fast. Now if you build a Daedalus and you want to transfer to a Daedalus, go over to it and push beam and you will trade ships (you'll become the Daedalus and it will become your NX).

Make sure you close the station menu before you fly away, too...it seems to lag on my comp with the menu open (but then again I'm on a 400mhz machine). Also your station won't defend itself if the menu is open.

Btw, when you research a Daedalus it'll say "upgrade starbase"...you cant do that until you destroy the Romulan starbase. Since both starbases are invincible right now, you cant do it and you're stuck in the ENT era for now.

I haven't solved the bug with the construction status bar going flippy because it hasnt happened to me yet...I'll have to wait and see.

FlashTrek Romulan Wars Beta v 1.2

Anyone have an idea how I should use the stardate? The stardate advances once every minute...I'd like to keep that feature in the game but not sure how to utilize it for gameplay.

Back to using mouse and keyboard in tandem, eh? Actually, that's my favourite combination.

I prefer this version . . . I kept on building up too many resources with nowhere to beam them, since the base was busy building a ship. So my speed decreased and I got destroyed.

Ooh! Major bug!

I created a Daedalus class starship and then beamed aboard it, thinking I might want to try it out. So I beam aboard, and then I'm faced with two NX ships and no Daedalus class ship in sight. Apparently some engineer's been messing around with the transporters . . .

This isn't a one time glitch. I just tried to do it again, and the same thing happened.

I'm going to fire all of my crew into space now, excuse me. . .

Okay, here's my problem. I reaserched Daedalus. tHEN I upgraded shields. I went for the new starbase. I tried to build an NX, but it wuldn't work. It says I need more reasources. I have over 2000 for the first one, and 4777 for the second material. It still won't elt me build. I tried another starbase upgraded, but, as the old term goes,it ate my money.

UPDATE:It seems that once I create sheilds, I cant build any more ships. All I can do is upgrade the station.

Also, I can't seem to board enemy ships (or starbases for that matter).

Last, and least, you could use stardates to determine who beat a level fastest, and so on, and so forth.

Well, looks like you need to iron out a few things.

Just for the record, I noticed that my starbase is looping again when I told it to "Upgrade Starbase." I think that my starbase is being deliberately treacherous too, as it fires less often! Death to all treacherous starbases! Down with the starbases! ;)

Also, you could use the stardate in a very complicated manner:

One of the things that you might add would be a "Cancel" feature for building starships (or upgrades), this might help solve the looping problem. The game could record the stardate you ordered the ship to be built, and the stardate you cancelled construction. If the interval is too long, it won't return any resources it used.

Just a thought, it sounds a little complicated. But the Cancel feature alone would be worth a million tons of dilithium.

Why does it say "Station is blowed up" ?

Didn't you ever pay attention to your grammar teacher??? ;)

Okay, first, I can transfer to Daedalus, but I don't see much of an increase.

Second, if I make shields for Daedalus, they wont work, and it still says that i need more resources.

Oh, and I still can't board enemies. And, it seems that my other NX ships blow up after one hit.

Okay...I think I think I think I fixed the problem with the station construction status bar.

Transferring to a Daedalus doesnt change your current ship's stats, so its just an image change right now.

Shield research feature now works. After you research shields you can activate them and any ships you build thereafter will be alot stronger, allowing those NX's to hold their own against the Rommies.

Some other updates...move your mouse over an allied ship to check its status. You can beam over repair teams to critically damaged allied ships.

I know there are photon torps floating around but dont bother picking them up Im still working on that part.

Tacyon I added your cancel button to the construction menu. Its the yellow X.

EDIT: Torpedoes now work.

Nope. It's always been 7 or less.

Actually, I thought it had more pages. Ehh, doesn't really matter in the long run.

Webby recently changed the post view count from 10 to 15...thats why the number of pages decreased, because there are more posts visible per page now.

Nothings missing if thats what you mean. Although the screenshots I posted before during the original FlashTrek beta are no longer on the web so they're gone.

I've discovered a fortuitous glitch. No matter how many torpedoes I fire, it still says that I have 20 photonic torpedoes left. ;)

And I have to say this again:

It's looping again!

I realize you're trying to fix this. But it's really annoying. The cancel button helps, though.

Cool ;) I finally got shields. They work great, except that the flashing blue outline around my ship is a little off-centre.

And once an a while my torpedoes don't fire.

All in all, the game is starting to improve greatly. Great job! :P

My Dadeuluses keep turning back into NX's. Just wanted to let you know.

never mind, I got it to work, but i am losing the ability of torpedoes every onece and a while.

Oh, and could you post a list of all of the ship's names.

I had the same problem, Darrik. Apparently the Daedalus ships have no new stats, all you get are images (unless you try to beam aboard ;) ). Tough luck, I know, but NX is Daedalus is NX for now.

If you get the shields working, they become tough little ships, though.

Well this game is almost finished...all I have left to do is work out some more bugs and get the rest of the inventory items working (and do the keystrokes for the damage control).

Before I release another update is there any other feature or neat thing you'd like me to add to the game?

I'll mention the pause feature one last time and then stop bugging you.

And there was much rejoicing. ;)

Um . . . hmm . . . how about some more music clips?
