It's good, but sometimes I loose control of the ship turning and it just continues to turn in circles. I learned that if u push the arrow in the other direction, you can stop it from spinning. That, and sometimes my ship that can go up to 8, gets stuck at 7and8, so i have to go into warp once or twice to get it to go lower.

Hey there,

Since I use a dialup....

For awhile I didn't think there was a preloader. Seemed to sit a white screen loading the first initial few frames for a bit. Might want to consider tossing in the first frame to just say something like "Hi, it's loading, get DSL" until the actual preloader.

Also, had something that happened in one of the early versions of the last game take place. A Romulan ship appeared that attacked me, but I was unable to fire at it. System didn't recongize it as being there for my weapons. This happened several times on numerous levels.

I do like the new graphics as far as when the ship turns, etc.

That was known bug that I've taken care of on the version on my HD, so the next beta won't have that problem. The bad guys are basically duplicates of an original clip in the frame. The original clip isnt supposed to do anything, but there was an error where it became a bad guy and came after you. Since it wasn't a properly generated ship, the game didnt recognize it.

I'll try to come up with a quicker preload screen : )

With all the new features, graphics, sounds, etc of the new game its a lot larger. I'm making absolutely sure to keep it under 1MB (I may end up having to cut things out of the game in the end), but thats why its loading much slower for you on your dialup.

I like the turn graphics too it makes the ship look more real ;)

When is the game going to be finished?

It's taking me a long time to complete this game because its so big. It has twice the ships, a larger universe, multiple modes of play, and over 5 times the number of weapons, plus a lot of secrets, cheat codes, and goodies...so I'll just say I'm working on it but I'll keep posting updates here.

I am planning on having the random battle mode finished first (expect that completed before the end of the month), and then work on building the single player campaign. That way folks can play the game and compete with other players for the highest score (score also earns you new weapons, ships, and equipment). Then I'll finish the campaign that will draw the player into a full story.

Well, the first FlashTrek was astounding. And now this one . . . let's just say that I can't believe it's free.

Only one thing: the music during the menu loops too quickly. Right after it finishes, it starts up with an abrupt transition. It'd sound better if the music stopped and then repeated after a few seconds of silence, or if two music tracks looped one after the other.

There's music in the intro menu of the second one (not the first).

I just put up a new beta. I really changed this game around because I was becoming unsatisfied with it. I think the new game employs a lot more strategy, since you have to gather resources and build other starships as well as attack bad guys.

FlashTrek Romulan Wars Beta

For those who've played the last beta, the mouse controls are gone...it will all be by keyboard now (except the repair button isnt switched to keyboard yet).

Lemme know of any interesting bugs or suggestions for things you'd like to see in the game ^_^

Can you include a pause feature?

And I'm at a loss as to how I go about collecting resources. The game is way better than the original, but more complicated and confusing. I hope that you plan to include more instructions, maybe another intro screen like you had in the first one.

Keep up the good work. ^_^

Update: Okay, I figure out how to collect resources.

I've got a bug report. At least, I hope it's a bug.

I started construction on a starship (I think this will be the fourth built). But every time the yellow status bar reaches full, it goes back down into the negatives and works its way back up to full. Basically, the base is stuck in a loop and I'm not getting any new ships. ^_^

I really hate reporting all this stuff, it sounds like I hate the game. But I don't.

My Akira class starship can't fire its torpedoes. The other ships that I built can fire their torpedoes, but all I get are measly phasers. And the display at the bottom says I have torpedoes. I've tried the Ctrl button, but not luck.

Thats definately a bug. That makes me mad because I spent somewhere around 4 hours trying to get that construction status bar to work properly ^_^ I'll have to play with it to see whats happening because I've never had that happen to me before.

Its an NX Class, like from ST:ENT. The Akira Class will come later ^_^ The reason you can't fire torps is because there currently are no equipment goodies. They'll be floating around space and you pick them up the same as the asteroid resources. Before you can fire torpedoes you must first equip your ship with a launcher (there are 5 types, including a dual-forward one) and you must stock it with torpedoes. That'll come in the next update probably.

No way...the last FlashTrek was made a TON better IMO because people made lots of suggestions and complained about stuff and reported bugs

Ah, the NX class. Yes, that class has always resembled an Akira class flipped upside down. It's kind of hard to tell. It would also explain the ships' troubling lack of shields (and subsequent tendency to be blown to bits).

Thank you for letting me know, and I can't wait for you to continue developing this game. It's great, and you are very skilled. I hope that you've got some sort of game design job in the real world where you get paid for what you do.

But you didn't answer my question about the pause feature, which is one of the most important features of a game. FlashTrek needs a pause feature.

::Turns on subliminal messaging: "FlashTrek needs a pause feature . . ."::

Nope just a hobby. ^_^

I'll try to make a pause feature. I'll give it my best shot. At the moment I have no idea how I'd accomplish it, though.
