Trek game I'm working on...

236 posts in this topic

Beta 1.1 is online now...

Changes...tons!

-New engine makes infinite number of bad guys and allows the game to run smoothly while producing a large number of ships and objects, including some improved graphics

-Beam phasers added

-Automatic targetting of torpedoes and beam phasers (fires at closest target)

-More planets and stellar objects

-Prestige awards for destroying baddies and completing cargo runs

-Cargo missions between planets

-Spacedock for upgrading to new starships, 8 in all

-DS9 now has torpedo defenses

-New friendly ships (5 different ships)

-Some (not all) of the friendly ships attack enemies

-A storyline/plot was added

-Other misc add-ons, features, and additions

-Preload skip button added

This is still in beta...so there will probably be bugs. If you find any let me know! The instructions manual has also been updated so you can glance it over before playing.

Comments...suggestions...critiques?

DARN INTERNET!!!! @)($&*%$&@*%&@*%&@*&! (sound of phasershot and muffle scream)

ahhhh thats better.

phew... what was i saying again?

ooh! right the game

um... Good game Vex a few comments

1) After you get killed and press restart, your ship can't hit anything, but it has no significant effect on the game.

2) mmmmmmm beam phasers :(

3) is there a script for all the ship's stats, shields/hull/weapons, or is it all generic?

overall, good job, it feels like SFC3 all over again heh heh.

Oh yeah why does the sovereign have pulse phasers?!

Each ship is different. Been getting the problem with the ghost ships (cant hit nuthin) after restart...if you refresh the page and restart that way it doesnt do it. It'll be fixed by next version though.

What Holden Says: I wish I could do that...

What Everyone Else Hears: Great job, Vex!

(The above was a translation of Holden to Human/Monkien/Vulcan/Rommie/Catian/Delphin/Klingon, etc. etc.

Okay here is a msall problem I had:

Could you make it easier for the ship to turn at impulse speeds?

The rate of turn decreases as you increase in speed. I did this because as an object increases its speed in space, its total mass also increases, and therefore would require more energy to change its velocity.

Plus...I had the rate of turn constant at all speeds in the first test versions (that no one saw) and I didnt like how the ship zipped around so quickly. It looks kinda weird and not at all like a huge starship.

hm...i guess you're right. the rate of turn puts a bit of challenge but who wouldn't want some? :( Good Work Vex!

I figured out how to survive in this game. Just stay docked at DS9. Your energy and hull strength are kept at maximum and you can let DS9's torpedos fend off the bad guys. Maybe raise your shields if things get a little hairy.

It's not the most challenging method of play, but hey! Victory is victory.

In the next version when DS9 or other starships blow up a bad guy you won't get any prestige for it though :(

I've been playing with the Sovereign Class which is a lot of fun...since I get to create the game I get to cheat ^_^

Actually its very easy. I try to round all the bad guys up and then mash all the attack buttons and then after they are destroyed I go back to DS9.

I agree with Nem, warp to the baddies, wait ... wait ... Ooo heres my favourite Part, Raise shields, fire all weapons, save pulses, and use beam phasers, when the baddies are dead, go back to ds9. I do this and managed up to 4200 points, still trying to get a intrepid out :(

Just a warning dont try to earn better ships just yet!

For one I messed up the code and one my variables is misspelled so it doesnt work right (you wont get a new ship even if you have sufficient prestige). And 2 the beta you're playing has the ships but it doesnt have the characteristics of each ship (higher shields, faster torpedo launchers, etc), which I'm working on right now.

Hey there,

Xiang, perhaps you've already discussed this but...

While sitting at work earlier today, looked at the latest version. When I tried to hail the station or any other ship, failed to get a response. This on purpose?

Well I redid the engine so the hailing part changed. Since you know flash you'll know what I'm talking about :( For the first beta I just had seperate movieclip objects for each ship named Nova, Oberth etc....now I have sequentially created clips from one library clip (that has all the ship options imbedded) named fshipn, etc. So the hail script needed to be rewritten. I wrote the script for the planets but I havent gotten to the ships yet. There's still some bugs in the planet hail anyway so I need to fix that first.

Hailing friendly ships will be back. And if you want to get something from them it'll be the same as with the planets, where you have to beam it over while the comm is open.

Nice game Vex, look forward to other versions.

One question:

What's the deal with the map? Are we going to be able to warp to other areas and how come the only ship I can engage are Jem Hadar fighters and Cardassian Hidekis?

Yes :( That'll be critical to advancing the game. I'm only now building the other systems. You'll have the opportunity to either do cargo runs to various planets in other systems, thus earning prestige and allowing you to upgrade to new ships, or just blast away bad guys to earn prestige (though in the beginning it'll be better to do cargo runs, since the defiant class is pretty weak).

The reason you're only encountering fighters and hidekis is because Bajor is already liberated, so there isnt a big Dominion presence there. Once you are able to go to other systems that are controlled by the Dominion, you'll meet bigger and badder enemies. And the goal will be to liberate each system.

Sniff....why?! why?! the defiant in BC is strong, though weakly shielded, it should have more hull points.

lol, by the time I see my shields drop and get to full impulse, my hull is already collapsed. :(

Okay I'll add more hull strength to the Defiant.

Thanks Vex :( As For Ladien ... you probably forget to cloak....

lol...defiant cant cloak :(

One thing Im going to do based on all the suggestions Ive gotten is have the bad guys fight the other fed starships and secure planets rather than chase you all day...especially if you're in a tiny ship that isn't a threat to them.

I've also decided that in the full game, when I finally get it done, you wont start out with a Defiant Class...you'll have to earn that ^_^

You start out in this...
