Playoff predictions!

Well, folks the time has finally come. The second season of the NHL (National Hockey League) is about to begin (on Wednesday). At stake: The most beautiful and sought after trophy in sports: The Stanley Cup! Who will take home the silver this year? Only time can tell, but here are my predictions. (and yes, I'm aware there's 16 teams playing, but I'm only allowed 12 choices).

 

My prediction: It'll be close. There's alot of good teams out there with a wonderful chance of winning the cup. Alot of teams made big changes over the Trade Deadline and gobbled up some very good players to help em out in the long run.

 

EASTERN CONFRENCE:

(1) Tampa Bay Lightning vs. (8) NY Islanders:

Tampa Bay didn't win the Eastern Confrence First Place title for nothing. They shouldn't have too much trouble beating the Isles. Tampa in 5.

(2) Boston Bruins vs. (7) Montreal Canadiennes

Two teams with a long, long rilvary. This should be a good close series. But Boston has been playing marvellously as of late, as have the Habs. But I wanna go for the Habs. Montreal in 7. ;)

(3) Philadelphia Flyers vs. (6) New Jersey Devils.

Me don't like the Devils, for some odd reason. And I don't think they have enough gusto for another cup. I'd say Philly in 6.

(4) Toronto Maple Leafs vs. (5) Ottawa Senators

Toronto always had Ottawa's number whenever they played against each other in the playoffs. In each time they faced each other in the post season, Toronto owned Ottawa. If the Leafs stay healthy, I don't see this streak ending anytime soon. Leafs in 6.

WESTERN CONFRENCE:

(1) Detroit Red Wings vs. (8) Nashville Predators:

This shouldn't be a contest. Detroit'll roll right over the Preds. Detroit in 4.

(2) San Jose Sharks vs. (7) St. Louis Blues

I think it'll be close, I sense an upset though. St. Louis probably wants to avenge themselves when they played in 2000. (I think). St L in 7.

(3) Vancouver Canucks vs. Calgary Flames

Vancouver does have a great team this year, despite the suspension of all-star Todd Bertuzzi, I see the Canucks advancing thru. Canucks in 6.

(4) Colorado Avalanche vs. (5) Dallas Stars

Almost too close to call for me.. so I'm not sure who will win this one. Though without the recently retired goalie Patrick Roy to help em out, I gotta go with Dallas in this one. Marty Turco's pretty good. Dallas in 6.

 

STANLEY CUP PREDICTION:

The playoffs hadn't yet started, but hmm.. the logical patr of me says Detroit, but my heart says Toronto. Toronto hasn't won a cup since 1967, and I'd be great to have us win it again. Plus, with the acquisition of Bryan Leetch, Ron Francis, Calle Johannson, and with Sundin, Roberts and Belfour keep playing the way they do, our chances of a Yonge street parade is quite good. If we stay healthy, that is.

So, for now, I of course am gonna choose the TORONTO MAPLE LEAFS to win it all! GO LEAFS GO! ;)

Being from Northeast Jersey I'll pull for the Devils. But I don't follow the NHL, and only follow the Devils if they're in the Cup finals. My excitement is reserved for another sport this time of year. ;)

Well again this year in the NHL Playoffs I hope to see Colorado Play Detroit. I realize this wouldn't be the big game. But these teams have little affection for eachother, and that makes for entertainment.

 

As to who will win the Cup, I dunno. But hopefully someone on the West Coast.

Well, seeings that somebody brought this old topic from the dead, I might as well make my 2nd round playoff predictions, thus far. I was a perfect 3-0 in the East, but 1-3 in the West. :)

 

EASTERN CONFRENCE:

Hmm, Tampa is currently leading 2-0 in the series, now Can Montreal pull something out of their hats like they did with Boston? I don't think so.. TB in 6.

 

(3) Philadelphia Flyers vs. (4) Toronto Maple Leafs

Even though, we're currently down 2-0 in the series, and lost 1 point (2-1 Final), my heart tells me we can overcome and rally the Flyers. But since we're down 2-0, I don't know if they can come trough... I'd like to say Leafs in a hard fought 7, still.. I've got faith.

 

WESTERN CONFRENCE:

Detroit should win this one, with relative ease. Detroit in 6.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but I agree with Nem. The Leafs.. if they work harder on defense and stop relying on Belfour, I think they can rally against the Flyers. The Fat Lady hasn't sung yet.. just remember what happened to Boston in the First Round.. the Leafs have also come back from worse defecits in their past. I guess we'll just have to see what happenes on Wednesday. :)

So...the fat lady has sung, 'Eye of the Tiger' has been played, and that wasn't a typo in my last post. Yes, I know it's a best of 7 series, but when you only need 4 for a sweep, it makes it a 'best of 4'.

Well since the leafs are getting their star players back and are playing well again, there is a great chance that they can take the stanley cup.
