Hey there,

Nope? Well, I can tell you that's not what the folks at startrek.com are saying. Just takes a bit to get folks to actually do what their supposed to. Hopefully in the not-to-distant future. :P

Yes, I think we'll eventually get back to teh St.com rooms.. key word -- eventually. I recall being told that the original return to the old rooms would be 26 January.. but I'm guessing it won't be too soon, maybe in a few months or something. I hope so, because the rooms at ST.com look very nice. :P

Well now that I've gotten some of my connection problems fixed the STSF rooms work better for me. However, recruitment has fallen off since st.com rooms closed for repairs.

I enjoy the backup rooms...but after all, if ST.com didnt have chatrooms, it wouldnt need chatroom traffic...and it wouldn't need STSF.

So...I'll be very happy when ST.com gets their rooms back. :P

Oh heck no...they don't own STSF. We'd just go on without them...but we may lose that ever-important advertising link they provide for us.

ST.com does a LOT for us and we should be really thankful. And I attribute a lot of STSF success to their contribution.

So I say we should rejoice when ST.coms rooms are back up...and we should use them as much as possible!

This isn;t the first time they have "done away" with thier chat rooms...actually I think this is about the fourth time, and it usally takes about six months or so for them to get them back sooooo just be patient :P

:P

I like the back up rooms more. Even though it often lags if people abuse the sounds, it's still a good room. The sounds, and auto colors rule, and I'll be angry when we have to go back to ST.com.

It's a lot easyer to use these, rather then have the ST.com page load for about five minutes, then log in, then reconfirm, then enter the chat room, then wait about another five minutes for that to load.

It's a pain. All you have to do here, is click on the live chat, and then go where ever you need to go.

Rather simple aye? I think the sites become popular enough by word of mouth, that we dont need the link as bad as we did before. It wont kill us, so I say, Why go back?

If you choose not to play the wavs, you should not ever expierence lag from it.

As someone who has worked with marketing for more than I care to admit... there is a rule ya have to remember.... you can NEVER have TOO MUCH advertising. The more avenues we can promote the "brand", the more attention it keeps on us. Also... remember... search engines base they're rankings based on how other sites link to them. So if we lost links to us, that would hurt the traffic to the site with visitors from search engines.

Here's a quick break down of traffic to the site from some of the major search engines (this is only for this month)

- Google 648
- Yahoo 37
- AOL 33
- MSN 27
- Unknown search engines 15
- Google (Images) 9
- Dogpile 5
- Netscape 5
- Earth Link 4
- AltaVista 4
- Overture 2
- Virgilio 1
- Euroseek 1
- Excite 1
- Kvasir 1
- Lycos 1

That's ALMOST 800 unique visitors in the first 22 days of the month that have come to the site from search engines. :P

So never underestimate the power of linkage. lol

When's the last Acad you've been to? :P

In my ceremonial role as STSF Featured Player I have sat in at some academies (and advanced sims as well) but pretty much all the names are familiar. Since I don't usually attend the academies regularly other to stop in and say "hi" it isn't easy for me to tell who has graduated and who has not, since some of the cadets are very active on this board. I'm not saying that is bad, it is just an observation.

I would disagree. If ST.com had no chatrooms there really wouldnt be any reason for them to advertise for us. Aside from the convention websites, STSF is the only official link to another non-ST.com site that ST.com has (and certainly the only non-commercial site). Any links they provide like that is a liability concern for them.

So we have a reciprocal relationship with ST.com. They help us by advertising, and we help them by generating traffic to their rooms.

Might not be a good idea to blow off the importance of the ST.com rooms so readily. Companies only tend to do things when it benefits them in some way.

The general trend over the years is that we gain oodles of players in the summer time only to lose a fair amount when colleges and other schools start up again in August/September. The numbers reach their bottom around January/February. This is of course no coincidence to the fact that the sports world is also incredibly boring during this time...football done, March Madness still SO far away. :P ANYway, Academy numbers usually start to rise in the late spring. We may not be in late spring yet, but we're already seeing a new influx of players and our academies that we're averging under 10 are now seeing more than 10 on a regular basis (depends on the academy of course). I'd say we have a fair amount of new players and players who are less than two months graduated from the Academy.

My few dozen pents...
