ARG Don't you just hate it when your physics teacher gives you 5 assignments in a week and wants it back during the week and some of them the next week? Sorry guys this week's picture and previous one will be delayed, please tune in next week.

Tovan,

School is more important. Thank you for the many weeks of screenshots you have done. I look forward to seeing more when you have the time. This is one of the most enjoyable threads for me on our boards. Thanks for your work.

If nothing else, just think about how much worse it's got to be for the physics teacher. You only have to do the assignment once, but he/she has to grade tens of them.

Good luck, Tovan. :-)

Yeah, but it thier fault since they assigned it. That's always been my policy at least that why they get NO SYMPATHY!

Plus they get PAID to grade papers. That's their job.

Hey there,

Actually, you'd be surprised to find that in many cases...teachers are not paid to grade the papers. Given contract specifications, there is not enough time during the "paid" hours to do so. In addition, I know some who simply base all grades on "participation" and the like.

That is one thing I hate about K-12. A lot of kids those ages are simply shy people. I was, and I'm betting many of you wish I was *still* that way. :D Some people do learn more through "participation", however the teacher wants to arbitrarily define that term, but not everyone does. It's not the teacher's job to grade a student on learning *style*, just their mastery of the material. Style shouldn't matter unless its something like art or drama or public speaking or something where style is obviously needed.

And while what Fred said about K-12 may be accurate, I must point out some things:

1) No one is forced to go into teaching as a profession. While having to take papers home to grade may be a burden, it is a *chosen* burden.

2) Pretty much all non-hourly jobs have some measure of uncompensated overtime. I don't know if teachers have any more or less than other occupations.

3) At the college and university levels, many instructors use their teaching positions to open doors to consulting side-practices. That "Professor" or "Assistant Professor" or "Associate Professor" title can often bring in consulting work that far outstrips what they would make if they relied on just their teacher's salaries. Sometimes it even makes them better teachers since they have some real-world experience they can talk about in class.
