The Discontented Doctor

 

"Captain I-" Victor turned around. He found himself talking to no-one, or to be precise, to a rope that continued to make small jerks as someone was climbing down it.

 

"Typical" Victor mumbled.

 

"Why is it always the poor sods with the medical degree who get left behind?" Victor thought to himself. "We've gone through just as much field training and experience as everyone else, if not more, yet we're only ever allowed to come along when the powers that be feel like letting us. Oh sure, if somebody's hurt themselves they start screaming their heads off till we get there and screaming their heads off till we leave but if we ask to save the time and go with them from the start we get looked at like nutters."

 

He kicked a pebble, which rolled and bounced till it fell down the deep hole into the darkness. Almost as if the cave had burped, the terrain rumbled immediately after. He took out his tricorder, the readings which seemed to signify life had grown substantially. Medic or no medic he was going down there to investigate.

 

"HD!", He called out to the engineer who stood staring off into the distance, "I'm going in!". He then proceeded to hook himself to a harness and climb down. As he descended he just realised how stupid the words "i'm going in" sounded.

 

"Drat" Victor mumbled.
