Crimson Tide!! Thank you! I couldn't for the life of me figure out where that theme came from and I KNEW it sounded familiar. I was about to watch all my home movies just to find out. You just saved me about 50 hours of my time. Hehe

Sorry to ruin your plans for the weekend. Now you actually have to leave the house. :P

I would highly recommend seeing the movie. It is very good, well acted, (Hackman and Washington are two of my all-time favorites.) and it makes you think "Hey, you know, this just might happen." One of the scenes at the end is of an Admiral trying to sort out the mutiny situation during the administrative inquiry (the "discovery" phase before a court martial) when he says "Insofar as the letter of the law is concerned you were both right... and you were also both wrong." I'm not going to give away plot specifics but that is pretty much how the movie went. Lots of back and forth and it is not clear who the "good guy" is.

The only thing I was looking for and didn't

find was a listing of the crew since the STSF

sim began. :(  Otherwise, I say Kudos on a job well done :)

Hey there,

The introductory movie is set to be something...static. It won't be updated unless there is changes within the command staff. I simply don't have enough free hours to do otherwise. In addition, I would feel an obligation to list everyone who's been associated with the sim...as I did the wonderful individuals who have co-hosted with me over the years. :)

It's the theme to the movie "Crimson Tide",

This is true...but...you won't find that exact music anywhere within the movie/on the soundtrack. But it's still based on Hans Zimmer's work. Some slightly modifications were made, mostly dealing with the removal of certain items and insertion of others. And it's amazing...when the first "theme music" went out to the crew in 1996 it look like 17 minutes to upload. Today, that same file (which wasn't of the best quality mind you) would take about 4 on a 56.6. Man how time flies.... :P

Btw Fred are you planning on adding that encyclopedia type deal to the Reaent site like on WebExcalibur? (I havent gotten around to updating mine or splitting it like you suggested) With all the Reaent's history I'm pretty sure that would be an impressive section.

It's possible but such a section will take an extremely long time to compile. We are talking about an item that's been running since 1995. I have quite a bit of that history...but there are large gaps due to system crashes and the like. Might happen at some point but not anytime soon.

PS: If the music you have in the movie is in .wav format you could probably convert it to MP3 and play it that way to cut down on the loadtime.

Since the music is not a direct copy and contains some heavy editing, wasn't an option. Besides, Flash converts it into the specifications you put in when the thing is published so it's fine. :)

Hey Fred, do you think you can add the crew roster to the website. It may bring up the site and help those who don't know who works where.

Just a suggestion.

Hey there,

As I mentioned earlier, not in the deck of cards at the moment. Two primary reasons:

  • First, movie is designed to be static. Meaning, it's not something that's going to require regular updating. My schedule simply doesn't allow such a beast.
  • Second, if I started listing crew members I would feel obligated to list all those...past and present...who have been on the sim. I know some might not understand the reasoning behind that, but I can't really explain it in words. So, instead of having a movie that ran five minutes and took just as long to download... :P

Hey there,

There are a few I'd rather like to forget...but these are folks who were present aboard many, many, many, many, many (did I mention many?) moons ago. And nothing in the modern day sim can compare to what they did. :(

I think she was referring to a current roster in the site itself...like the one you send to your crew, not a list of crewmembers in the movie.
