Tovan

Memorial to those who were lost

Personal log:

Lt. Tovan

Day 1826

:: Tovan hikes up a path from his home, to the graves where Lt. Lego and Colonel Eason were buried, they’ve died Approximately 2 years ago. Tovan thought as he hiked. ::

That’s two officers aboard the ship that has passed away during our five years on this planet. Two! What is happening to this mission?

:: Tovan recalled back 730 days ago when Colonial Eason was giving birth to Captain Sovak’s daughter. That 730 days ago when A9 yelled in pain “WE DID IT, Manticore Did it!”::

After we’ve been pulled in to that black hole, things started to go wrong. 3 years ago, our warp core breached and exploded. But how? I ran every conceivable tests and precautions on that core and yet it fails. I thought our stay on this planet would be only temporarily, but now I see things more clearly, my eyes have some how been disillusioned, cleared from all hope. I see now, I do not know, if our hope would stand against the incredible odds.

After that Explosion, many engineers and scientists aboard Manticore were badly injured but one, Lt. Lego, passed away. I did not get to know him over the past years, which we served together not even one conversation outside of duty hours. Fate chose him for the price, the price to test the new warp core. He paid that price and yet we failed him. This will be one of my, most grim of memories.

:: Tovan tucks in his battered gray robs as he hiked upon the hills towards the graves, using his walking stick as a guild through the bushes and piles of slippery dirt, and his hat to block the sun. He speaks loud again, speaking his deeply buried thoughts about the past 5 years.::

5 years, many people developed many relationships and others, having children of their own. Colonel Eason … I never got to know her as well. Before I could she passed away while giving birth to her daughter. What is going on, on this planet? Has our mission turned sour? Has every one gone insane as I am? I feel as if my mind has turned and I think differently about things now. Do I want to go home?

:: Tovan slipped on his rob and tumbled down a hill and stopped. Tovan stood up and dusts himself off. ::

If we are the destroyers of our own past by going to the future, can we go back to the past and fix our own future? If we do what would happen to this timeline? Would Eason still be dead? Would her child still be born? Would our warp core still be in pieces? Would Lego still be dead? Would this time line exist after we ever make it back home?

:: Tovan continued on his path, thinking and repressing past memories of death. Those scenes of dead and the news of death haunted him. Poking him at every turn, tearing pieces of him off ever second. Still, Tovan battled on. ::

If we succeed in going back to our own time, would this ever have happened? Would the human race still be gone? Would Eason and Lego still be dead? If we can go home, then how would we do it? Do we still wait around for another 5 years? What would that going to do to the crew?

:: Tovan stops his muttering and his feet at the two limestone carving that read “Here lies Eason” and “Here lies Lego” Tovan drops a small sunflower plant he had been growing by the middle of the two stones. There were also other flowers there, from almost every one of the crew. Tovan drops his walking stick and hat on the ground, and kneels, bowing down his head and makes an gesture sign to both stones.::

Remain in peace my friends, even though I did not know you two completely, I still have the most greatest respect for you both. I hope you will find peace –

:: Tovan took a moment and gazed at the sky::

- in where ever you both are. I hope you’d find peace where I cannot … …

:: Tovan stood up and places back his hat on his head and walking stick in his hands, he takes another look at the two stones and starts walking back towards his dwelling. ::

Find peace my friends. I ... .... i cannot, not knowing that we are the destroyers of our own futu - or past i cannot forgive my self for that, i cannot sleep, not knowing this i ... ...

::Tovan's voice trailed off as he slips his hands over his eyes and walked away::
