Hey there,

I personally found the Trekkies movie almost completely insulting. The only reason I didn't walk out of it was because I was interested in seeing the interviews with cast members. Many are very kind people. I recall a situation during the 30th Anniversary Convention in Huntsville when Kate Mulgrew came down to those of us who hadn't paid for the "extra, extra, extra" package. She was supposed to give an interview for a local TV station. Told them to wait and spent a solid 20/30 minutes in an informal autograph session, then did the interview, and went back to spend more time doing autographs. She didn't have to do that.

The Trekkies movie did not show how 99.785% of fans are, folks who simply enjoy the show and like to get together sometimes to talk about it. A good analogy I recently heard one of the Enterprise cast members make was that Star Trek fans are almost identical to football fans in many ways. Know what? It's true.

But looking at that movie made you think all fans were transvestites who dressed up playing the never seen wife of Captain Pike. I mean....geesh! That and I'm still concerned that kid they showed will make an attempt to take over the world at some point. Positive of it.

Now if you want to talk about a movie that I really think was a great one, funny, respectful towards the fans and also almost a tribute to them....Galaxy Quest. :)

I think so, Nem. As Fred said those hard-core type Trekkies only represent a small fraction of Trek fans. Trekies wasn't in theatres either.. I saw it on TV.

I think it lasted a whole 5 days in our town, but with nobody in the theater, it was pulled quickly.

I would appear in a Trek Nerd movie in a heartbeat! I mean, who cares?? Nobody I know watches the crap, so it's not like they'd be coming up to me and saying, "Oh my God! I saw you in that Star Trek movie!" And if they made another one (which I doubt they will), perhaps they'd have listened to the complaints and included more "regular" nerds than just the freakish ones. Oh wait, that rules out STSF... hahaha. JUST kidding. Sort of.

But a movie entirely about STSF? What would it show?? A bunch of people sitting behind their computers typing for two hours? Now that *would* be weird! We actually considered entering a skit based on that in the ST contest down in Baltimore, just because of the absurdity of it. We were too lazy to coordinate it, though. I think STSF would be good for about 7 minutes of movie entertainment, lol. Now... if we could just convince the annual migration to move a week or two to go during the convention in Vegas... Ooo...

Uh-uh...I'm going to call you on this one...you nerd.

Not only did we get caught in the footage...but I started getting email...the first of which came from you my friend Huff, saying..."OMG...I saw you in that Star Trek special....!!!"

And yes, we 'were' just too lazy to finalize the script of LapTop Trek for the contest....but we almost did it.....Then we decided to go have Margaritas instead.....

OMG. It was in the theatres? They aired it on TV here. Probably not popular even to even make it in to theatres then. :)

Well, I think that the general public, doesn't see a differnce between average people, and the hardcore Trekkies.

I was at the subregional knowledge bowl tournament in Mankato...and the question went.

Ichabod Crane's eyes, So and so's dress, Mr. Spocks blood.

I insantly buzzed in and said green, getting the question right. The rest of the day, was spent being picked on, because I was a "Trekkie", just because I knew Vulcan blood was green!

My teammates made fun over me, even though it won us the round! It was also the reason that I got disqualified...one of the guys had a little to much fun with it, and ended up dislocation his shoulder...said I pushed him off the stairs.

True story. I have a wrap sheet now...So, I guess public display of Trekkieness with people that dont understand you, is just trouble.

Well, shows you what I know. I didn't even know Trekkies was ever in theatres. I thought it went straight to video.

I too would appear in a "Trek Nerd" movie, if it shows that we have lives outside of Trek. I mean pretty much only other Trek nerds would see it anyway, right? And if not, so what? "Hey, you were in a Trek fan movie! You're a nerd!" Yeah, and I was also President of my fraternity in college, so how nerdy can I be?

I just remember my dad was so proud of me when I told him my online Vulcan persona made Chief Engineer on a Klingon ship. :)

Hey there,

Actually, it was in theatres for a very brief period of time. That's when I first saw it. Went with a relative and I think there were perhaps ten other people there. It wasn't a major box office success, in part I think because word got out about how degrading it was towards fans.

Hey there,

Problem is this. In many respects, 3/4 of the population can't tell the difference between the folks dressed up as transvesite wifes of Captain Pike and those who just like the show. In many ways, this is what pisses off a lot of the fan base.

The movie did nothing what so ever to help in that regard and was actually billed (think it was on the movie poster) as a "tribute to fans." It was like "Oh a tribute hu? A tribute from the perspective of someone who wants to mock everyone, yeah."

Denise Crosby did seem like a nice person when I met her. However, I personally think she has some deep down resentment at the entire franchise. She left TNG to persue a movies and well...we can see how that went, can't we? Meanwhile, her co-stars went on to produce six and a half seasons of popular television, four major motion pictures and many are now directing in Hollywood.

::snarkle:: hey my team won a "Quiz" Bowl tourney because I was a Trekkie..

The questions was what was the "NCC" of the orignal (TOS) Enterprise...seriously the other team beat me to the buzzer...AND GOT IT WRONG!!!! I was like wow! And we won the dang tourney because I knew it...the rest of my team was stummped..LOL...OMG I am one of those people :)

Oh please, people :P Lighten up about the Trekkies movie. It was funny as hell. Honestly, if we can't make fun of ourselves, we're missing the point of that movie. And as strange as those people were and are, you have to admit that we all share at least a little bit of that strangeness with them. After all...what do we all do at least once a week? That's right, we pretend to be officers on imaginary starships. Some might call that a little on the strange and obsessive side, so who are we to judge the kid who wants to make his own Trek movie?

Feel free to be freaked out by the guy who wanted to surgically alter his ears, though ::shudder::

That said, the Trekkies II people were at the Shore Leave convention in Baltimore this year, and it was fun alternately dodging and waving at the camera. Yours truly was even interviewed along with the hubby-to-be :) Doubt we'll make the cut, as both of us are horribly shy in person, especially in front of a camera, but it was great fun :)

We just hope that they got a good shot of a certain Marine in a wheelchair being pushed around by a certain Klingon whacking people with GloSticks. Damn the Trekkies people for making us miss that :P

See he was no Trekkie...anyone who's a Trekkie KNOWS that if you want to make your ears pointy, you just have to put your head in a chinese rice picker.

Surgery :)

Half right. You start by being Chinese (and 6 feet tall as Spock was) and then get your ears caught in a MECHANICAL rice picker. Trick is you have to get one ear caught and then be stupid enough to lean in again with the other side of your head. :)

I think Krax hit the nail on the head. If we are seriously THAT offended about a lighthearted movie that pokes fun at those nerds who take Trek to the extreme than we are no better than they are.

A stretch indeed.  No offense but I think the fans would reject this idea unless it is done VERY well, I mean better than any ST movie or series done to date.  It just looks like they would be grabbing anything that *might* work independently, throwing it together, and hoping it *does* work as a combined effort.

That having been said:

Lt. Cmdr Paris - a Lt. Cmdr is a bit overqualified to be a helmsmen (except in STSF) if those are his only duties.  Besides, there is no way Paris would stay in Starfleet when the alternative is to be a prise-winning author.

Lt. Worf - Last I heard he was a Lt. Cmdr.

Lt. Cmdr O'Brien - He is currently an NCO, at best a Warrant Officer.  Sure he could be Chief Engineer but why would we field promote him to do a job he has already done as enlisted?

Ens. Nog - Last I heard he was a LtJG (even though he never graduated the Academy).

Although, come to think of it, this movie could be quite funny.  Can you imagine the different crews totally contradicting each other?  Imagine Riker ordering the Titan to Warp 15 and then cutting to Janeway who says Warp 10 is the universal maximum!  :)

OBrien was a Cheif Petty Officer, the only time his rank was ever definitely mentioned anyway. Besides that OBrien is now teaching engineering at the Academy.

If Paris ever made it to Lt Cmdr he may indeed be serving as a helmsman but probably holds a second officers position as well.

Nog was promoted to Lieutenant J.G towards the end of the series.

And as far as Picard being Acting Co of the Titan, never happen ; ) 1.) he'd have to be promoted above captain to do that, 2.) hes got the Enterprise or a new assignment 3.) I don't ever want to see Riker play second fiddle to picard again, hes finally left the nest, let the boy grow up for gods sakes.

As far as Janeway...Candidiate for god-moder of the millennium, I never want to see her again and if she winds up in a movie I'll boycott.

Edit:

Of course I'm horribly late making this post..and I didn't see that the thread was five pages long before I made it. So perhaps the corrections I made were already pointed out.

Amen to that, my friend. Sometimes it's funny to laugh at yourself. :)

We have sort of drifted away from this being about a hypothetical Star Trek movie to being about Trekkies and Trekkies II so I opened a new topic.

I personally tend to laugh at those uber Trekkies. If we cant find hillarity, in our Trekkie extremes, then what are we?

Every society has it's extremists...we're no different.

True story about an uber-nerd witnessed when STSF went to Vegas:

You would think that Star Trek: The Experience would be the one place we could get away with wearing uniforms and whatnot. Atragon did wear some Star Trek ornaments (He actually had more Babylon 5 than anything else) but that was it. No one wore any uniforms. Later on, walking the strip, completely on the other side of town, we saw tourists in full regulation TNG uniforms. There wasn't even a convention in town that weekend! :)

Hey there,

Just as long as no one here goes to jury duty wearing a Starfleet uniform, complete with a communicator and tricorder, I think we're fine. Maybe. :)
