I always wondered why they already call it "Starfleet" when it's just one ship and a handful of shuttles. A fleet? Heck, that's not even a task force!

Well, according to canon the war was fought with nuclear weapons without either side ever seeing the faces of the other. It might not involve ships at all.

I'm still waiting for all the WWIIIs that should have happened by now.

Yeah buit then again look who is running the show! Since when have they cared what was said in othe series! ;)

They will prolly have romulans running all over the Nx-01. Which would really kind of ruin half the plot of introduction of the Romulans to TOS when Kirk is shocked to see romulans look like vulcans. :)

I don't think the Romulans were aware they were distant cousins to the Vulcans either. What was REALLY funny was a couple episodes later the Romulans prepared an authentic Vulcan meal for Mr. Spock. ;)

WWIII happened before Enterprise. It happened a long time ago, back before ST: First Contact. I think that was set in the aftermath when Cochrane launched his first warp ship.

Speaking of Romulans on the Enterprise...maybe the reason T'Pol is so emotional is that she's....a....Romulan!

Hehe...I wouldn't put it past them :)

There is a (non-canon) explanation for this.

The purging of emotions from the Vulcan psyche, given the once violent nature of them, can't be an easy or quick thing. Even in Voyager's timeline it hasn't happened for everyone. Maybe at this point in Vulcan evolution they have the *desire* to purge their emotions but just haven't completed the task yet. It is still a conscious effort on their part to control their emotions and there are occasional lapses.

I'm not saying I agree with this theory, but it is a theory.

Actually if you must know: (a semi-canon History of the Rihans)

When Vulcans rejected emotions, one of Surak's students who felt the Vulcans were losing thier soul (I can't remember his name) gathered togather a group of 120000 (*this is an approx.*) colonists and they left Vulcan nad headed for a new world.

Along the way the encountered other races who took advantage of them (which is why they are so xenophobic). The Journey was long and hard. Many died. They eventually made their way to Ch'Rihan and Ch'Havern where they settled down, and begin the Rihan Empire.

When Vulcans rejected emotions, one of Surak's students who felt the Vulcans were losing thier soul (I can't remember his name) gathered togather a group of 120000 (*this is an approx.*)  colonists and they left Vulcan nad headed for a new world.

Here is the full version. It's actually quite a gripping story. It may not be 100% cannon, but...

Around 80 BC, Terran dating, Surak began to practice the control of emotions and publicly stating that logic was the way to peace. His ideals were very slow to spread and it took many years before people began to take him very seriously, but he did recieve some followers. One of these was a young man named S'Task, who was Surak's finest pupil.

Around 20 BC the first signals from an alien race were recieved on Vulcan requesting a peace envoy. However, the aliens did not come in peace. They were Orion slave pirates, and they wanted the Vulcans for their slaves. The Orions captured many of Vulcan's leaders, including S'Task, now Surak's most trusted lieutenant, who had led the original peace envoy.

This began the greatest of Vulcan's wars. They fought with their more primitive space ships, but these were not enough to beat the Orions. They used their mind talents to manipulate the Orions into attacking each other and / or to drive their ships into the sun. Surak himself took no part in the fighting to save his race. On the slave ship S'Task had escaped captivity, and began to form a rebellion against the Orions. He and his followers over-powered the pirates and eventually crashed the slave transport into the Orion mother ship. He escaped in an escape pod, and was found weeks later, almost dead, but kept alive by his own anger.

This began the split between Surak and his student S'Task. After his experience with the Orions, S'Task renounced the pacifism of Surak, saying that pacifism was inappropriate in the hostile universe waiting in interstellar space. However, he did not reject the *logic* of Surak. (This underlies a point I have made elsewhere - pacifism is not logical.) S'Task was not willing to promote his philosophies actively against Surak for fear of prodding Vulcan back into a state of war and anarchy. It was with this in mind that S'Task proposed an alternate solution.

S'Task and his followers decided to leave Vulcan, using the technology that they had stolen from the Orions. They would find a new planet to live on, with the laws that they wanted, so that Surak and his followers, now many of them, could live their own way. Surak's farewell gift to his former student and trusted lieutenant was his personal ceremonial sword.

The survivors who reached their new planet called themselves the Rihannsu, or the Declared. The planets that they found were a twin set. They named the planets ch'Rihan and ch'Havran.

My point: To say the race we now call Romulans rejected logic is incomplete. Let's face it, they are known for their cunning and subterfuge, and logic is a necessary component of these. They were able to make a distinction between logic and pacifism that Surak was not able to make, and it is the pacifism that was rejected outright.

Hey there,

Well, given what we've heard, Earth does have several colonies outside of Sector 001 already. I think it's logical to assume there is indeed a Starfleet...as the ENT season two finale and episode showing an alternate future showed. However, I think those ships aren't nearly as fast as the NX-01. Probably Warp 2 or 3 in speed.

I did a Google search on Vulcan/Romulan History. This is actually a cut and paste of a post I did about a month ago.

That is a very gripping story Dumbass. Where did you find it?

It's a good summarization. A majority of the information posted was gleaned from the Diane Duane/Peter Morwood book "The Romulan Way" as well as some from the book by M.S Murdock "The Web of the Romulans". I suggest reading both to anyone wishing to play in a Rihannsu sim, or who enjoy some interesting background information. I did not list the TV series episodes that show the Rihannsu, as they are easy enough to find on ST.com, but have posted the suggested reading list we have posted on the RES Talon website below. For anyone interested in some very nice maps, as well as the design differences in the various Rihannsu unifoms (diffent patterns for different branches) the boxed set, "The Way of D'Era" comes with 3 books of information, maps and some really good diagram pullouts, and usually costs around $35-50 dollars, depending where you're shopping. The original 1966/1983 FASA role-playing game also has some good information.

Anyway, you will find below, the RES Talon Reading list.

See us Rihansu are very interesting. And thank you Van Roy, That was the story I was summerizng, I just didn't feel like pulling it up and copy and Pasting it. :)

And I think that you would be correct, they didn't reject logic per se but they certainly rejected classic vulcan stoic logic.
