Hey there,

It's another poll on that familiar topic...the latest edition of Star Trek: Enterprise.

For those who can't remember names, episode 317 is "Archer tries to save the offspring of a group of Xindi Insectoids when he discovers their crashed ship on a barren planet."

Personally, I must say I enjoyed 3/4 of the episode. I think it's interesting to learn more about the Xindi and I honestly think there was a solid moral situation. Yes, these people are trying to kill you and wouldn't care about helping your children. However, on the flip side...if you succeed in saving the eggs, you may help to show they're wrong about humanity.

I did enjoy seeing some more involvement by the MACOs, though they really need to help narrow down what their job(s) are. The ending was...eh...not really sure. To a certain extent it was typical, but I wasn't totally sure of how it was going to play out. So, in the end, it wasn't all that bad. I might have liked to have heard someone say they're making a new regulation about requiring full bioscans after returning from missions...a policy I believe they had in place within TOS times.

And it was amazing...Mayweather actually did something productive on the bridge. Go figure!

I was impressed by the use of computer graphics in the episode. I thought, especially in this adventure, the external shots of Enterprise were amazing.

Looking forward to next week, which I believe is a two-part episode that will conclude in late April. Also, I do hope they finally get into this whole concept of the Xindi being told by someone "from the future" about their race's destruction in 400 years. One of those nagging questions that I think will really make or break the entire long-term plot.

The plot was *way* too predictable. I had the entire episode figured out by 15 min in.

This was one of those episodes that gets me wondering why Starfleet officers are so willing to open up their biosuits at the first sign of an untested atmosphere.

Either way, I think it was a good idea. Not Enterprise's best, but, nowhere near as bad as its worst.

Hey there,

Easy...to "Smell out strange life, and odd chemicals, to boldy get high on substances we've never encountered before!"

You're right that part didn't make sense. They didnt even consider that there may be diseases or anything in the air.

But I guess the plot really couldn't have them in EVA suits the entire time and they needed to get them out of them quick so Archer could get splattered.

I didnt see any moral point to the show though. I kinda got the idea that if Archer hadnt been splattered, they would have just left the eggs there to die. Not very Starfleet-like.

That part didn't quite make sense to me either, but I did enjoy the episode alit though. It was kind of predictable plotwise, but still an entertaining hour. :)

I liked it, it was interesting. It's always nice to see learn more about the Xindi. It would have been my favorite if there would have been a morale. But the whole 'Archer/Splatter thing turning him into there mom' just kinda killed the episode.

Still enjoyed it though, I am amazed at the quality of episodes coming out. Lets see if they can keep it up :)

You'd think they could do that with a lot less effort in California.

ARGGGG!!! Don't they teach these guys basic away team stuff? Let's beam aboard a strange vessel, and good, yes, we have our hemlets on. Everything is dead.....except wait...there's an Oxygen/Nitrogen atmosphere here, and some life signs (the hatchery)...so...what's the first thing we should do??

YES...I know...Let's open our helmets!!

::bangs head against the bulkheads::::

:) :P :D :)

Well they're the first ones out there...maybe they're stupid. We know better because we've seen Geordi turn into an invisible lizard, but maybe they dont know any better!

Of course after Archer you'd think they'd learn.

You'd think so, eh?

But seriously....the Vulcan's had been out and about, and being into the whole 'scientific thing', you'd think they'd have at least clued in the hapless humans about the some of these very simple dangers...........

But then again....we're talking Vulcans.... :)

Hey there,

Could be worse...might have had one of those pig people aboard. Though, might have helped to ensure Cookie had something to make the crew. :)

Oh...I didnt' say I didn't like it. It's just one of those things that I tend to pick up.

Yes, you've pegged it, I'm a Nitpicker.

My gaming group, got together that night back in '95, waiting for the first episode of Voyager to air. And some of them are worse than I. Now that Voyager is out on DVD, more people can relive little picky things that drove me nuts that night. I have these all on VHS, in a box upstairs, but I guess I'll have to break down and get some DVD's so I can pick some more. Watch and see if you can pick up some of these. I haven't seen some of these for some time, so don't remember the exact quotes, but I remember the CLOUDS!! Here are some things I remember from Caretaker and a few other overall things.

Nitpick> Caretaker. There is a statement made, when going down to the planet, that there is no surface moisture. Note however, when the away team beams down, that in the dull orange sky above them and in the distance .... note all the puffy, moisture containing clouds?

Nitpick> Caretaker. When Neelix is brought aboard Voyager and Tuvok says something to him about getting a bath, Neelix acts like he hasn't a clue what a bath is? I'm not sure of the exact quote, I'll have to find the tape that it's on. Thing is, Neelix isnt' from the Ocampan planet, he's from Rinax, which is a normal temperate world, well, before it was destroyed that is. Why wouldn't he know about what a bath is?

Nitpick> Caretaker. On the Ocampan planet, Neelix shoots a water container the Kazon are around. You then see the Kazon rushing forward and collecting the water from a spigot on the side, not supposedly from the hole he just shot in it.

Nitpick> Caretaker. Why does the computer/transporter buffer NOT pick up Seska's Cardassian DNA when the crew of the Maquis ship are beamed aboard Voyager. She was surgically altered, but her DNA would have remained readable.

Nitpick> Ok, this one is just a vague memory, so you DVD folks will have to check this one out for me, and help me recall. I think I remember that in this episode, both Tuvok and Paris are wearing the wrong rank pips. Tuvok is a Lt and Paris is a Lt. jg. Let me know.

Nitpick> Overall thing. Ok..I'm not even going to get into the replicator. Ok,maybe a bit. Just keep me from going off on my biggest pet peeve....shuttles!!!???

They don't have the power/resources to replicate food, but they had to constantly replicate parts for shuttles....to replace or fix the 43!!!! shuttles that were lost or damaged during this series!!??? And they scavange for food and resources for the first 5 seasons, but does 7 of 9 coming aboard suddenly solve their energy troubles once they pick her up? Once she's aboard, they don't mention replicator energy problems at all the last 2 seasons. Go figure!! :)

Ok, I'll go stop and chill out know.....

::Grumbles:: Keep mask closed.
