History

Vex Ervin Xiang left his homeworld, Delpi 5 at age 17 (by Earth standards). Immediately joined Starfleet Academy.

As an "infant" Xiang explored the underwater ruins of his home planet. He quickly studied and analyzed everything he could find...placing it all in the Delpin Research Institute. He had always been fascinated with exploration, research, sciences...but was limited to his own planet and underwater by the restrictions of being a Dolphin-Like species. When Delpi 5 joined the Federation, Starfleet brought technologies that would allow the Delpi to move freely out of water. Starfleet has equipped him with a standard AGU (see AGU below) system for Delpin Starfleet officers.

Considering Xiang was on the edge of the frontier on some of the best ships in the fleet, he was given the Delpin rank of Honorary Delpin Ambassador. While this did not affect his Starfleet rank, he was considered an Ambassador in diplomatic meetings and conferences, and could act on behalf of the Delpin Society. With the heavy amount of transportation required with this role to appear at various meetings with the Delpin Council, a small specially modified shuttlecraft was been assigned to him. A monthly report of his experiences was required by the Delpin Council, to be logged and sent by Xiang (which did not include classified or restricted information). Once more Delpins had entered Starfleet, there was no longer a need for Xiang to act as an ambassador and he the title was removed.

Service Timeline Details

On stardate 2370.321, Xiang's AGU System encountered an interuption of the communication between it and the Delpin user. This caused a series of malfunctions which released it's hold on Xiang, and collided with the ceiling, causing physical damage. Several safeguards were installed to prevent this from occuring again.

On stardate 2372.096, Xiang is given the title of Honorary Delpin Ambassador for Delpi Exploration and Scientific Data gathering in the galaxy.

On stardate 2372.296, Xiang took a leave-of-absence from the USS Stargazer, and attended a conference in the Delpin Ambassador Council to discuss current issues on creating an independent Delpin exploration department. This was approved, and the first Delpi Science Vessel designated, "xea'd_xesean" began construction. During this conference, along with one other Delpin Scientist, he developed the theory for an MS Field.

On stardate 2374.003, Xiang had a first encounter with the Borg. His findings and analysis on the Borg were sent to Starfleet, as he noticed they were behaving much differently than usual Borg. This new possible threat has been cataloged in Starfleet Borg databases.

On stardate 2375.105, Xiang discovered a small cylindrical device which he brought aboard for study. It turned out to be a computer archive, from a race long since extinct. Much was learned of this species, and cataloged in Starfleet databases. During this time, he developed a method of energy transfer through subspace.

On stardate 2372.312, Xiang developed a prototype for the MS Field, which is a Magnesium-Sulfate compound released into the electrostatic charge of a ship's shields. The elements ignite, sending off a reflective light. This renders the vessel "invisible" to the naked eye, assuming they aren't in a position to see a reflection of their own vessel. It also deflects some semi-'mistargeted' tractor beam and weapon locks. It is limited however, by the amount of MS available.

On stardate 2375.151, the AGU System was heavily modified and refitted.

On stardate 2375.186, Vex I'xan, Xiang's father, died. According to Delpin tradition, Xiang assumed the family name. His name was changed to Vex Xiang.

On stardate 2375.196, Xiang attended a Delpin Council Meeting to discuss the recent changes in the Federation. There, he met Delpin Ambassador Xaika once more. There was a brief relationship before Xiang returned to active duty, now aboard USS Hawking. Xaika later gave birth to his daughter Xila. Xaika died from complications shortly after, but his daughter is currently a Starfleet officer.

On stardate 2376.143, Xiang transferred directly from the USS Hawking, to the USS Excalibur, upon hearing an opening aboard her. He took a position of Assistant Security.

On stardate 2376.200, Xiang received a message from his homeworld claiming of an anticipated invasion from the Dominion. Xiang returned to his homeworld (on an extended leave of absence) to defend it against the assault. However the message had been falsified and en route to his homeworld, Xiang was abducted by the Dominion so that psychological testing could be completed on a Delpin to determine the value of Delpins to the Dominion should they be anexed. Within an intense mind-simulation, Xiang was chosen as an ambassador to bridge the gap between the Delpins and the Dominion representatives. For a year in his mind he served the Dominion. They trained him, as well as all Delpins, to disregard their emotional supressions...taught them to hate and to fight. It succeeded. Through genetic and neural manipulations, all Delpins were converted into the perfect aquatic soldiers, the counterpart of the Jem'Haddar. All in only one year. Once their testing had been completed, they allowed Xiang to believe that he had escaped them. Soon after returning to the Federation, he discovered that the past year of his life had been an illusion. Forever changed by the events he was forced to experience, he resumed his tour aboard the USS Excalibur.

On stardate 2379.312, after the Dominion began their primary assault on the alpha quadrant, Xiang transferred to the USS Relica to be on the front lines of the Federation defenses. He quickly gained the rank of Lieutenant Commander. The USS Relica was eventually destroyed in battle, with only several crewmembers surviving including Xiang.

On stardate 2380.201, after the destruction of the Relica, Xiang removed himself from service and began independant research in the delta quadrant under a grant from Starfleet. After seven years of research, cataloging dozens of ancient civilizations, he returned to Starfleet for four years of service as an agreement within the terms of the grant. Due to his prior service, he was given the rank of Lieutenant, with all of the rights and privileges granted to that rank. His previous experience with the USS Excalibur and her crew gave him the desire to request assignment there as a science officer. Later given the assignment of chief of science.

On stardate 2389.324, for a brief period of time, Xiang, suffering from a lack of meditating sessions with the vital vex'nar chemical, experienced a psychological break. Xiang's personality was recessed, while other personalities of his ancestors began to resurface. In the end, they collected to become a personification of the 'ancient ones' that the Delpins revere and speak to during their vex'nar sessions.

On stardate 2394.122, the USS Excalibur encountered an alien race that turned out to be a close relative of the delpins, outcasts from Delpi 5. A violent species, the Excalibur managed to defeat their large starship, but Xiang allowed them to escape by sabotaging the USS Excalibur.

Physical Profile

Xiang looks very similar to Earth's Bottlenose Dolphin. He is non-humanoid, no arms or legs...but fins. His skin is a smooth dark gray. Eyes are blue. Length from head to tail is 2.7 m. Weight is 198 kg. Dorsal Fin shape, genetic to his family, is called Vex. His family name is thus, Vex. Attached to his back, just in front of the dorsal fin is an AGU System. Around his body is a skin tight field containing a salty liquid substance to keep his skin moist. A universal translator is implanted inside his snout (his mouth) because his native language consists of chirps and squeaks.

Psychological Profile

Xiang has a complex, highly evolved brain, like all Delpi. He is capable of telepathic communication, levitating objects, and sending sonar pulses at controlled frequencies for visual perception in pitch dark. All of these are natural evolutionary developments due to living in the waters of Delpi 5. The Delpi are extremely logical beings, and their culture is closely related to Vulcans. They have emotions, but it is typically suppressed.

Therapy: During a transfer to another vessel, Xiang was abducted by the Dominion and "programmed" with two years of memories of torture and murder. After one week he was released with a Dominion-designed AGU that actually served as a recording device to gauge the psychological effects of the Dominion overtaking the Delpin Homeworld. Since the Federation did not fall as they planned, their research was nullified and nothing was done further. However, it has left Xiang with these memories, and occassionally gives him the need for theraputic counseling.

Counselor's Note: Recurring nightmares and psychological trauma associated with forced, falsified memories of events conflicting with the individual's moral and religious ideology.

Medical

Xiang is biological, a mammal. His anatomy is similar to Earth's Bottlenosed Dolphins, although his brain structure is much more advanced. There are minor differences in the main portion of the body, although not significant.

Differences are as follows: Noses which are reinforced with strong bone and thick tissue; Larger brain casing; Sharper teeth; Enlarged sonar glands; Longer fins (with muscular entrails at the tips); Larger stomach.

Surgeries: An operation was performed on his fins (hands), several bones were removed and replaced with artificial ball joints. This allows him to articulate his forward fins in a much more rotational fashion, giving him the ability to "tap" a panel or even move light objects. Unfortunately, he lacks sufficient muscles within the entrails of his fins to make them any more functional than a single long finger.

Doctor's Note: Severe adverse emotional reaction to medical probing, due to previously noted psychological trauma. Some difficulties with prior indicated surgical procedure, occassional pinching of nerves and dislocations associated with bone joint replacement on previously undocumented physiology's. Opinion is that problems with the operation in question outweigh the reported benefits and further procedures should be carefully examined before proceeding.

Hobbies

Xiang enjoys swimming in a naturally aquatic environment more than anything else. He also listens to Terran Jazz music as well as the songs of Earth's primitive aquatic mammals. His curiosity has led him to an interest in scientific study.

Family

Family Name - Vex

I'xan - Father of Xiang (76- Deceased)

X'is - Mother of Xiang (54- Deceased)

Xila - Daughter of Xiang (21- Starfleet Officer)

Xaika - Mate of Xiang, Mother of Xila (29- Deceased)

Ch'xis - Sister of Xiang (41- Starfleet Officer)

Jila - Sister of Xiang (37- Cultural Librarian, Delpi 5)

Dian - Mate of Jila (49- Head of Delpin Research Institute, Delpi 5)

Quarters

For Xiang to be truly comfortable, he must have quarters, normal size to any other officer, or smaller. It must be filled with salty water at least 60%. The rest must be full of rich oxygen. The room must be empty...no furniture or equipment (due to the water). Water and air temperature must be maintained at 80 deg. F.

Anti-Grav Unit (AGU)

While the prototypes and earlier versions of the Delpin AGU system were bulky and overdesigned, the newer standard systems are much more comfortable. There is a tiny device which is attached to the back of the Delpin just in front of the dorsal fin (approx 6 in. x 4 in. x 2 in.) that generates a skintight field around the entire Delpin and keeps it filled with salt water. A gap in the field above the blowhole allows breathing. It also generates an antigravity field so the Delpin is mobile. Another unit is held in place by the field in front of the blowhole on the forehead. It is equipped with a short range scanner and an image projector, similar to the function of a tricorder. It also has a port on which attachments can be placed, such as an image mapping sensor, a phaser, or many other smaller devices. Only one may be attached at any given time.

Commands to the AGU are received through the foremost unit by way of a telepathic relay. It interprets extremely short-range telepathic frequencies and translates them as binary codes, which are used to control the device. It also transmits commands to the anti-grav/water field generator.

Engineer's Note: Technical files on the AGU are available in the Federation Xenobiology and technology databases as well as in the standard utility databases. The system is extremely compact, including many systems which are of varying design to accomodate the small housing they are in. Replacement parts are available for replication through the AGU technical files.

Sonar

Sonar is usually used for depth perception in areas where visibility is less than 40%. Delpin's have evolved their chemical sonar signals, gaining more control of them. Although it takes a bit of strength, a strong sonar pulse can be sent out...focused enough for someone to feel. The finer the pulse is focused, the harder it will feel. Distance also effects the strength of the pulse. Strongest possible pulse is only similar to a nudge. For a period, following Xiang's incarceration by the Dominion, Xiang's sonar glands had been torn by excessive use. His sonar pulses were abnormally strong, able to inflict physical damage, but in the process produced great pain from him. Natural healing returned his glands to their original state and he lost this ability, but would

Languages

The universal translator automaticly changes any language to Delpi format...and vis-versa. Xiang only speaks Delpi, a sonar based communication form which is translated into audible sound by the universal translator. Learning humanoid languages is impossible due to the differences in vocal organs, tongue movement, etc. To the other effect, a humanoid is incapable of creating Delpin sounds with his or her voice. Xiang is also familiar with hundreds of computer code languages, most in binary form.

Limits

Without the anti-grav unit, he would simply flop around on the ground uselessly. He cannot levitate his own body. Without the water field, his skin would eventually dry. Xiang is, of course, a mammal. Like all mammals, he must breath oxygen from the air. His hide is much thicker than a humanoid's...but still easily pierced with a sharp weapon.

Science Expertise

Stellar sciences, astronomical theory, stellar phenomenon, aquatic xenobiology, anthropology, and archaeology.

(has done limited work studying the Borg, focusing on its branch structures and internal hierarchies)

Other Department abilities

In engineering, although he possesses the knowledge, has difficulty with repairing systems due to his physiological state. Also possesses an adequate understanding and training of Tactical stations including weapon systems and defensive systems. Extremely poor at stations where quick terminal interface is required. His abilities in other departments that require a more physical demand are lacking due to his physiology.

The Guide to Delpins

Delpin Physiology 101

A Delpin has a beaklike snout and sharp spade (chisel shaped) teeth. Average length for a Delpin is 3 m (9 ft) and 200 kg (440 lb) in weight. They are predators, eating other smaller aquatic life forms such as fish, particularly the fesf'w, a special fish most common to Delpi 5 waters. Food consumption is 55 kg a day for a Delpin 3 m in length and 150 kg in weight. This rate of fish intake is much higher than that of a similar species, the Earth Bottle-nosed dolphins, despite that their physiology is quite similar. It is presumed this is due to the additional energy required by their larger brains.

The Delpin snout is reinforced with a large thick bone plate under the skin. Teeth are an average of 2 inches long. The jaw pieces of the snout include upper and lower. Above the upper jaw is a large mass of fat and oily tissue. Lower jaw is mostly muscle. They have a very large brain casing, including enlarged sonar glands (when compared to a similar species- Earth Bottle-nosed dolphins).

Anterior appendages contain the skeletal remnants of five digits that form the flippers, which the Delpin used as a stabilizer while underwater. Each flipper has a long muscular entrail at the tips, allowing some but limited manipulation Dorsal fin is formed from a subcutaneous dermal tissue and is not movable my muscle action. The caudal fin (tail fin), is also primarily dermal in origin and consists of a pair or horizontally extending flukes, also with entrails at both tips but these are relatively weak and useless. Thrust for a Delpin comes from vertical oscillations of the tail and flukes, capable of swimming to speeds of 34 km/h. Shorter quicker bursts of thrust can bring the Delpin up to 40 km/h.

Delpins must breathe oxygen, and maintain a high body temperature. Average body temperature is 98-99 deg F. Maintaining warmth is aided by a thick layer of dense fat under the skin. Air is breathed through a specialized single nostril, almost directly on top of the head. A Delpin can remain underwater for extended periods of time, up to 6 minutes. Maximum diving depth for a Delpin is approximately 325 meters (1,250 ft).

The average life span of a Delpin is 98 years.

Reproduction

Reproduction is accomplished with traditional male-female pairs exhibiting courtship for some time prior to copulation. Pregnancy in Delpins is estimated at 11 to 12 months, producing a single calf. Delivery is tail first, and the newborn is capable of swimming and breathing within the first few minutes. Nursing of the young Delpin lasts about 10 months. Delpin calfs remain with their parents for 10 years before allowed to live on their own.

Growth and Development

For a Delpin, development begins almost immediately. At birth they are capable of swimming and breathing correctly. The following is a chart of Delpin development from birth to death. Death occures in approximately 95 years.

Birth = Learns immediately to swim and breathe.

10 months = Delpin ends its nursing with it's mother

1 yr = Delpin begins to develop sonar skills and communicative skills.

3 yrs = Delpin shows signs of sentient intelligence, both mentally and in action. It begins forming complex

communication abilities with sonar.

5 yrs = First starts developing mental telepathic abilities.

10 yrs = Begins training to achieve a logical mind and thinking structure, begin to live on their own.

14 yrs = First starts developing telekinetic abilities.

15 yrs = Fully developed reproductive system.

20 yrs = Fully developed adult Delpin.

30 yrs = Requires a second training session to maintain emotional control, which will last longer than the first

session.

50 yrs = No longer capable of reproducing.

55 yrs = Requires a third training session, this will last the rest of their lifetime.

70 yrs = Slowing down, beginning to show signs of age.

75 yrs = Skin turns a pale white, once smooth skin is rough at the touch.

80 yrs = Lose telekinetic abilities.

85 yrs = Mental abilities slow, loss of emotional control.

95 yrs = Approximate time of death.

Communication

Communication of Delpins are accomplished either vocally or telepathically (see Telepathy). Vocal communication consists of two different sounds. A specialized mechanism in the nasal passages emits a short, pulse-type sound called a chirp. It can also be altered by a flap of skin just below the passage to lengthen the chirp into a squeak. Each squeak and chirp in turn can be altered into a different frequency for complex communication (see also Sonar).

Sonar

Chirps that a Delpin makes can also be used as a form of sonar, where echoes of sounds from surrounding objects enable the Delpin to detect obstacles, other Delpins, fish, and even tiny bits of matter. This ability, known to humans as "echolocation" is quite similar to the Earth species of Dolphin. The Delpin can also alter its frequency to an extremely high pitch, creating an acoustic shock which stuns very small prey (fish), which would feel almost as a slight nudge to a full grown humanoid or another Delpin.

Psychology

Delpins base their life on logic. Although they have emotions, they easily suppress them. They are guided through life by 30 rules, which they call the Delpin Rules of Conduct (see Delpin Rules of Conduct). It wouldn't be logical for them to stray from their rules, unless absolutely necessary.

Their control of logic is somewhat limited. Every 15 years of a Delpins life, they must journey to a cave on the Delpin Home world for the "xave_fnenv_rev'q"...the logic replenishment ritual. Here, they remain in a large underwater cavern, alone for one week, to replenishing their logic and obtain emotional control. See the "Delpin Rules of Conduct" for a complete list.

The Delpin brain is extremely complex compared to other species of similar intelligence. Affected by a chemical native to their homeworld, memory engrams are passed from generation to generation. Although they are fragmented and distorted, when a delpin is experiencing a vex'nar session (in which they injest a particular chemical called vex'nar- it is similar to a Vulcan meditation) these fragments collect and become a generalization of the Delpin's ancestors. The subsequent personality appears as a visual hallucination. The delpins refer to these hallucinations as the 'ancient ones', since they literally represent their family history. So far, up to eight generations past have been seen in a vex'nar session.

Delpins must complete vex'nar rituals at least once a month to retain their emotional control. If they are without the vex'nar chemical (which they are adapted to because it is present in the waters of their homeworld), they can experience psychological traumas and psychotic breaks.

Delpin Names

Delpins usually have 2 part names. Head-of-family delpins have 3.

Delpin names are in opposite order as human names. Their first name is their inherited name while their last name is their given name (when a delpin, non-head-of-family, has only 2 names). For example, Ervin Xiang (ervin being the inherited name, Xiang being the given name). The third name is the family name, which is only held by the head of the family.

When a child is born, the children inherit the given name of the father as their inherited name. So Ervin Xiang's daughter is named Xiang Xila. Xiang is her inherited name, Xila is her given name. Another example, Xiang's father was named I'xan Ervin (without the family name), so Ervin Xiang inherited his father's name Ervin.

As head of the family/pod, I'xan Ervin's full name was Vex (I'xan) Ervin. When he died, Xiang became head of the family/pod and his name changed to Vex (ervin) Xiang.

Xiang's daughter, Xiang Xila, will mate into another family and join another pod and will never take on the Vex pod name.

Religion

Although not yet fully understood by the Federation. Apparently centered around a humanoid being. Evidence of his actual existance has been found. The leader of a group called the "Ye'Ialsk" which insisted that the aquatic animals of the planet should be treated as sentient beings, considering they showed promise for future evolutionary development. Delpins are also centered around a single belief in logic, aided only slightly by emotion, and a set of rules known of as the Delpin Rules of Conduct.

Vex'Nar (Chemical Agent)

Vex'Nar is a natural chemical located exclusively on Delpi 5. It is secreted via a reaction between two physical compounds. The necessary requirements are a mineral called x'nar and carbon-rich common H2O. On the ocean bottom of Delpi 5 carbon is readily available from the dead plants and animals that eventually sink into the sand and are decomposed (as well as excrements from the living lifeforms). When the carbon interacts with the mineral it produces a chemical reaction. The mineral itself breaks down and is transformed into three elements; oxygen, photons, and its byproduct vex'nar. As the minerals are reacting they secrete the cloudy vex'nar, glow bright green, and its oxygen bubbles to the surface. This reaction is critical to the ecological survival of the planet, since there are no surface plants to produce atmospheric oxygen.

The effect of vex'nar varies from species to species. To the Delpins it is a meditative aid, allowing them to contact their 'ancient ones' via visual and auditory hallucinations derived from actual inherited memories in their subconscious. To humans and most humanoid species, vex'nar is extremely toxic and exposure could cause dizziness, nausea, and death. However, it does not produce the hallucinatory effects that it does in delpins.

Vex'nar is saturated in low levels throughout the oceans of Delpi 5, but are most dense within the enclosed caves on the ocean floor.

Language (detail)

Delpin language is based on simple chirps and squeaks set in a specific pattern. The squeaks and chirps are then set on different pitches to denote letters (see also Communication). Sentence structure is fluid as one word. Words and sentences are the same. Sentences make up larger phrases when grouped together. A high pitched chirp indicates the changing from sentence to to sentence...a low pitched chirp indicates the changing from word to word. There are no pauses in Delpin language. It is very simplistic, there are less sounds for a Delpin than there are for a human or most other alien languages.

Set with English standard, Delpin alphabet:

C = chirp, S = squeak, H = high chirp (change sentence), L, Low chirp (change word). Pitch levels, lowest to highest, 1-7.

Key: (English letter(s)) = (Delpin sound)

A B C D E F G H I J K L M N O P Q P R S T U V W X Y Z (English letters)

S1 S2 S3 S4 S5 S6 S7 S8 S9 C1 C2 C3 C4 C5 C6 C7 L H (Delpin sounds)

Relation: (sounded language) (english = delpin sound)

A, O = C2 B = C1 C, K, X = S2 D = S3 E, I = C3 F, H = S1 J, G = S4 Q, U = S5 L = C4 M, N = C5 T, V, P = C6 W, Y = S6

R = C7 S, Z = S7

Relation: (written language) (english = delpin letter)

(english letters are used to represent delpin letters)

A, O = a B = b C, K, X = x D = d E, I = e F, H = f J, G = j Q, U = q L = none M, N = n T, V, P = v W, Y = w R = r S, Z = s

Other:

Some sounds are reserved as simple calls which are understood with no change in pitch to sound out a word or sentence. Normal use of these pitches are as follows:

S8 = Distress, in need of personal help, in need of help for another.

S9 = General hazard, something wrong which will affect many. aka, stay away.

Example of a Delpin sentence structure:

English - Captain, the warp core is failing.

Delpin (sounded) - *S2 C2 C6 C2 C5 L C6 S6 C2 C7 C6 L S2 C2 C7 C3 L C3 S7 S1 L C2 C3 C4 C3 C4 C3 C5 S4* (Note although the Delpin sentence seems rather strange, it appears so because it is a list of pitch and sound types, not actual letters)

Delpin (written) - fabax_nef_warv_bej_ef_baden

(See Delpin Dictionary for more language information)

Delpin Star System / Homeworld

Delpi System is in sector 210 of the Alpha Quadrant. It was mapped and discovered by Star fleet Science Team Beta-D-394 on Stardate 2254.015, by the USS Marathon. The system consists of 6 planetoids. Only one of which, Delpi 5, is inhabited and Class M.

Delpi 5 is the fifth planet from the Delpi sun in the Delpi System (see Delpi System). It contains 3 orbiting moons, all of which are Class T and uninhabited. Life formed include sentient aquatic life as well as primitive aquatic life. No land animals or living creatures are present. Water coverage of the planet is at 98%, Land masses are only 2%. This is due to the melting of it's polar ice caps approx. 32,000 years ago. Neighboring planets are Delpi 4 and Delpi 6.

Delpi 5 has been nicknamed, "Dolphin World" by a few rather eccentric scientists.

History of the Delpi

From reports, Delpi 5 contained sentient humanoids and primitive land life forms. The humanoids advanced to a late industrial age, equivalent to the year 2012 of Earth. All humanoid and land life was destroyed when an extremely large comet passed through the system, close to Delpi 5, effectively heating up the planet. This caused the polar icecaps of both North and South to melt. When land masses were flooded over with water, all land creatures were eliminated.

This brought forth the possibility for different sentient life forms to evolve. Such life forms included the Delpins, who eventually exceeded the humanoid predecessors in both mental and physical ability. Although Delpins do not create their own shelters in the water, they live within the remaining buildings left by the "land walkers", as the Delpin call them.

Delpin live in large packs. A city of Delpin include over 4,000 or more within a certain area, usually the ruins of an ancient land walker city. However this does not exclude natural cave duelings. The most famous natural underwater cave on the Delpin Home world is "venxer_xave", a cave (1,000 feet below sea level) which is home to Delpi's most ingenious philosophers, scientists, and political leaders. It also contains the vault of peace, which is a large cavern within the cave, one small entrance, and a large pocket of fresh air. The "venxer_xave" is a quiet room where a single Delpin lives for one week, replenishing their logic and obtain emotional control.

The Federation sent the USS Brattain on Stardate 2342.143 to fully investigate the Delpi System. They found Delpi 5, the only possible inhabited planet, to contain primitive aquatic life forms and evidence of ancient humanoid civilizations. Several expeditions were made under the surface of the water for months, carefully watched by the Delpins until Stardate 2342.239 when the Delpins approached the leading party and made contact. They joined with the Federation on Stardate 2344.004. Only a selected few, by choice or for negotiations, have left the Delpin Home world.
