Lokrah and sten joint

Joint Log, Sten and lokrah,

Anger and friendship and Loneliness

(It is 0540 Hours, Tovan and Holms were busy doing their work on the bridge while Lokrah is busying her self with Repairs, Sten is on his way to check on her progress, since he’s off duty)

(Lokrah replaces the isolinear chips in the correct slots and specifications that Tovan Laid out to correct the malfunction that occurred a day ago. Sten walks in to main engineering. Lokrah doesn’t notice)

Sten rubs the sides of his temple, mutter softly. Lokrah’s fatigued face showed hours of hard work.

“And I thought the academy was boring.” Sten muttered. Lokrah doesn’t appear to acknowledge the remark and still placing chips and processors.

Sten walks up to Lokrah attempting to nudge her awake from the work.

“Morning.” Sten greets her.

An awkward silence then Lokrah responds with a soft voice.

“It’s morning already?” She asked amazed on how long she stood in main engineering.

“Yup.” Sten nodded.

Lokrah stares silently at the panel and asks. “So…what do you want?”

“You look pretty rough, Heidi. Don’t you think you should take a break?” Sten said.

Ensign Lokrah raises her voice in frustration. “What do you want?”

Sten raises his hand. “ OK! OK! Take it easy.” Sten moves over and sits down next to her. “When was the last time you slept?” Sten inquired.

“I thought I TOLD YOU I have work to do so stop bickering and tell me what is it you need from me!” She yelled.

Sten doesn’t understand this out burst of rage.

Lokrah gasps at her own anger and quickly apologizes. “I’m very sorry Sten.”

“It’s OK, I’m here because Lieutenant Holms wants an update on those secondary ODN relays. He said he can’t continue his research until they are up and running.” Sten explained.

Lokrah lowers her voice to its original volume and gives Sten a response.

“The relays I can finish in 2 hours, the secondary processors on this ODN relay were damaged by that overload surge.” She explained, then quickly shoved a PADD in to Sten’s hands and back to work.

Sten takes the PADD and glances at it briefly, then sets it aside and looks at Heidi.

Sten thinks for a moment then stings Heidi’s Interest. “Hey, I’ve been saving some of our better rations… why don’t I cook something nice up for us later?” Sten said.

“It’ll just be like home.” He added.

“Home….” Heidi said silently.

“Earth…. Vegetables…. Cooking…. Mother….” Her voice trails off.

Sten gives her a concerned look. “You OK Heidi?” Sten said.

Sten not prepared for the anger as it erupted from Heidi’s face.

“Eat Your Cooking? I might just do that BUT I SERIOUSLY WANT TO BE ALONE AND…. AND…” She stops half way. Sten is shocked by this sudden burst emotion, and jerks back from her.

“… I’m sorry Sten…” Lokrah apologizes and looks away.

“It’s just that” A pause. “I feel homesick.” She admitted, eyes watering.

Sten understood. “It’s OK to be homesick, but you do know that we don’t expect you to get us home all by yourself do you?” Sten said followed by a chuckle.

“I’m sorry.” She said simply rubbing her face. “It’s the ship. I feel lonely.”

Sten now knows what she means and nods sympathetically. “I know … it’s getting to me too.”

Unexpectedly She smiled at him. Interested in a dinner. “What were you thinking of cooking with those rations?” She asked.

Sten smiled brightly, glad to see she’s changed the subject and her mood. “I was thinking of some oblongish pies?” Sten said, grinning. “Can’t go wrong with those” he added.

Lokrah’s eyes sparkled. “Those are my favorite! But you should let me take a shower first.” She said. “I’m one dirty engineer.” She added giggling.

Sten laughs and adds. “Of course, being dirty is part of the job description” Sten thought. “Not to mention headaches.” Sten added while pulling Lokrah up by the hand.

(Finally, Sten and Heidi walked back towards the bridge, aside. while Tovan and Holms were tearing their brains out by thinking. Has she finally found a true friend? You can say that.)

The End
