Welcome Darkmonkey!

1. You'll find all the information you need about getting started in STSF in our "Help" section. Be sure to check it out! :)

2. Just attend one of our regularly scheduled Academy simulations. The schedule of simulations is located here.

3. If you have any further questions, be sure to post them here or talk to anyone on the GM staff, we'd be glad to help.

Once again, welcome to STSF!

Welcome to STSF, Dark Monkey! Like Grom said, it's reccomended that you readt the help section Here and the Tips from the Moose topic, in the STSF Academy sub-folder. He's a very knowledgeable capitan with a plethora of advice for newbies. :)

thanks for the advice...ummm...how do the promotions work?

Well, you should get all your questions answered in the Help section, but generally speaking, it varies (Oooh, I love doing that).

You would attend some of the Academy sims and, when the GMs running the sim think you are ready to graduate, you will be allowed to join an Advanced simulation. Promotions on those are completely up to the GM team that run the sim. So, like I said above, it varies, eh?

Welcome to the wonderfly wacky world of the Star Trek Simulation Forum, or better known to it's members as STSF,

Everyone else has pretty much already said everything I said. Don't be scared to ask a GM or an experienced simmer for help.

Make sure you read "Mooses Tips"...They really help...and they make you think too!

Also...Make sure to try out many different positions in the academy. Even if there's one position that you really like, when it's time for you to join an advanced sim, you may not get the position you want. (Believe me...I was looking for engineering or OPS, but I had to go with medical to get the sim I wanted, and it worked out...I love Reaent!)

So...Enjoy yourself but keep these things in mind,

Lt. Brian Smith, M.d.

If you mean the advanced sims, chose one that fits your schedule. I would recommend dropping in and watching the different sims that interest you to get a feel for how the different ships are ran. Each seems to have a different personallity, find one that suits you.

Basically, Rtor's right. I'm proud to say that STSF offers a wide variety of sims, from TOS, Federation sims, and Romulan and Klingon sims, where you can play virtually any alien race (shoot, if I chance to choose my characters over again, I definately would not have made three Hans Seibens) . But anyways, like she said, find a sim that fits your schedules and watch them to see what the style of the GM is like, as well as to know what's going on, so you wouldn't have to be lost when you finally do report to your advanced sim. Most sims haves websites where you can see what kind of positions are available, (though some really need to be updated. :)) Otherwise, I suppose you can e-mail the GMs of that sim or crew of that sim to see what positions are available. as for promotions, the first promotion to LtJG is usually about 2-3 months after your first day on the job, but it's up to the GMs. They base it on attendance, participation, and most of the time log writing as well. But anyways.. goodluck to you. :P and welcome to STSF.

Dr. Smith's Guide to the STSF Advanced Simulations:

USS Excalibur - STSF's newest simulations

USS Manticore - TNG Era...And well...Atragon's in command...

USS Republic - Another Newbie...Don't know much about it

USS Hood - The only TOS sim in STSF...You get to deal with the donut-loving CO

IKC QoB/Lakota - One Word: Klingons...

USS Arcadia - Sovreign Class...AND Dac...

USS Reaent - My Fav...WE HAVE McLEAN!

RES Talon - Who wants to work for someone named T'Rex?

Sky Harbor Aegis - STSF's only stationary simm

Really though...However fun or gross these descriptions may seem...Check all of them out and see which one fits your schedule and interests the best.

Dr. Smith

(Disclaimer: I'm trying to be humorous, not sim-bashing)

Hey, also I think the Excalibur is probably the most diverse sim in the fleet. We;ve got three Vulcans (or maybe 2 1/2), a Klingon, a Ferengi.. and we're the only sim in the with our very own Delpin! :)
