Recently we've had many topics on sports on these boards. I'm curious what everyone enjoys the most. I know that there are many great sports to choose from, but try to choose one!

Well I picked golf.

My old boss was a golf fanatic, I guess because in Silicon Valley there are sometimes 2 golf courses in a city and you don't need to be in a club to play. In Stuttgardt, where he is from, you have to join a club to play and it can cost the equivalent of $20K a year and they won't let you on the course if you aren't good (and how the heck can you get good if no one will let you play?).

Anyway, he would often send out an E-mail on Friday morning saying "We golf today." and the whole office would take Friday afternoon off to play golf. I eventually got pretty good at it, even scored a hole in one once. (The wind was just right.)

My new boss doesn't like golf. :(

Well that's easy. I'm huge Pro Football fan. Nothing better than football in my opinion. I would have gone for the college football, but I'm more interesting in Pro football. :)

And this is all thanks to Buccaneers winning the Super Bowl last season, as I followed them very closely last season and this season. :)

How strange.... :(

::Double Thwaps Dak:: Now don't forget us Floridans still have FSU, UF, and U of Miami. Each one a force to reckoned with. :(

I've been to few UF and FSU games. It's just I find I enjoy Pro football over college football. Doesn't mean I still don't like it, it's just I've had more fun at Pro games :).

Had to pick hockey. It's my duty as a Canadian citizen! :) :) Toronto is a hockeytown and we do love our Leafs. (Even though they lost to sub-par teams like Boston and Bufallo, stupid Trevor Kidd :( ). It's a fast-paced, full contact sport, what more can you want? :)

Hard to be from North Carolina as I am and not be a huge college basketball fan. ACC is year in and year out one of the most competitive conferences in the nation. That competitiveness makes every game for all nine teams a battle; there are no freebees in ACC men's basketball (just last night the last place team beat the #2 team). Every game is important, and because of that you as a fan can easily stay interested and involved.

Some of the best NBA players, past and present, came through the ACC; Michael Jordon, Sam Perkins, Grant Hill, Mogsey Bogues, Billy Cunningham, Horace Grant, Mark Price, and Tim Duncan are just a few of them. The collective talent of the 50th anniversary ACC men's team, announced last year, is mind boggling - for example, of the 50, 48 players were first round selections in either the annual NBA or ABA draft, including 9 players who were the first overall selection in that year's draft.

This year is especially exciting because 7 of the 9 teams are playing exceptiobally well, and all 7 of them will almost certainly make the NCAA tournament. I'm a Demon Deacon to the core, so last night's home win over #3 in the nation Duke was very, very sweet. :)

I'm not a big fan of any pro sports really. I have favorite teams in most of them, but we don't have a lot of choice in the Carolinas. Not that I will ever complain about being an Atlanta Braves fan or a Carolina Panthers fan (best Superbowl I've ever seen!). The focus on money really turns me off from the professional sports.

Edit: Forgot to mention I went into such detail because our Canadian friends may not be know all of the ins and outs of the US college bball system. I live in Vancouver as well as NC, and everyone up there assumes "ACC" is a government agency of some sort :(

Thats a tough one since I don't like any of those sports. Is offroading a sport? If so I pick Other.

Yeah, I think it is Vex, activitties like rock crawling is a pretty popular activity, not too mention those "Tough Truck" exhibitions where 4x4s navagate through a course inbetween monster truck races. MOst extreme 4-wheeling sport is where turbo-charged 4-wheelers try to climb a very steep hill. It's pretty big in Iceland.:(

I chose to include the major sports within the United States and Canada. There are obviously more sports out there. The sports listed seemingly have the largest fan base.

I chose professional baseball. It always has been my favorite sport, so I couldn't walk out on it now. :(

Bah, FSu is only good becuase we gave them Bobby Bowden, Floridia is scared Zookless, and Miami cheats to win...and can have fun in the ACC!

::shakes head:: No no no, you can keep your good football teams where they are! We at Wake Forest prefer less skilled, perferably dramatically so, teams that we have a chance at beating. :(

HA HA HA HA HA!

Like Duke right? Oh wait they got good at the end of the year...You boys just said hello to the Doormat by letting Miami and BC in your conference.

(*Notice I left out Va. tech...there is a good reason for that.... they are 6-8 the last two years n the Beast of the East!)

Duke is without question the ACC's doormat football team. Wake, VA, and BC (in a couple years when they join up) will all be a clear step above Duke, but below the real contenders. So while Wake's chances of reaching another bowl game anytime soon are very, very low, playing at Groves Stadium won't exactly be the gimme that playing at Duke here. Wake hasn't been a freebie for any ACC team for several years, even FSU, according to the rest of the ACC's coaches.

But I agree we'd probably have to employ some Last Boy Scout tactics to beat Miami. :(
