Garnoopy

"Shower"

Lieutenant Commander Garnoopy

Chief Engineering Officer

Personal Log Stardate 50402.14

“Shower”

“Bloody hell” he said when the image of the sub processor bridge isoliniar chip bank came into view.

“I just replaced these chips a week ago! What is going on?” Garnoopy groaned to no one.

The bridge was empty. Apparently the rest of the crew was either asleep or working on other projects. Whichever it was, he was glad to be alone.

He began to pull out the chips and one by one replace them.

Don’t get it wrong, Garnoopy loved being on the ship. Someone would have to drag him down to the planet before he’d leave his engineering up here in the hands of someone else. It was just, well, Garnoopy was starting to feel a little strained with so little personal space. It was obvious the rest of the personnel aboard were feeling the same thing.

He had first realized it a week ago when he tripped over an item Lieutenant Betty had left next to her bed. The sleeping space was cramped and Garnoopy hadn’t’ seen it. So, he had met the floor head on. Not a pleasant experience.

Since then things had only degraded. People were getting stressed. It was just this morning though that he realized something truly needed to be done about it.

It had been a complete accident. The ready room doors were supposed to be locked when someone was in the shower but they had apparently forgotten.

He signed as he worked with the isoliniar chips. What could he do about it? They needed more space. Where could he find it?

“Computer, how many separate crew quarters are there on deck two?”

“There are six crew quarters and one mess hall on deck two.”

“Computer, run an analysis, if power was brought online to all systems on deck two, excluding replicators, out of the power we have left, how many days of life support would we loose?”

Two beeps ensued, along with a momentary pause, “The length of available power would decrease by fourteen point two four days.”

Garnoopy frowned, thinking about this. Two weeks would be cut from the available time onboard the Manticore. However, they did need the space. Not only to give one another personal space but also for a large room to begin construction of the equipment required to bring them home. Lieutenant Goad had informed him they would require the space and until now Garnoopy hadn’t known where they would get it.

“I guess the question is, how much do we really want to be able to breath?”

He smiled to himself, “Two weeks, two weeks.”

The panel in front of him lit up as the sub processor came back online. The computer would now be back in tiptop shape. Next job was to switch to the secondary impulse propulsion system for power and then clean out the primary one.

Garnoopy stood and turned, walking over to the Operations panel. He tapped it, thinking.

“I suppose the real question is, do I really want to see another one of my friends in the shower?”
