The music of the sky and the river

Lt Tovan

personal

The evening sky above was quickly darkening, the entire crew have gathered to celebrate the completetion of the centrifugal fractionor. They rejoiced and feasted on a very small share of rations and plant life but nevertheless the crew was happy.

Beside a river bank, sat Tovan, eyes closed, meditating, clearing of his unorganized thoughts and understanding his current state of mind.

Even from the distaince, a large amount of noise could be heard. Appearently, no one mind. Tovan certainly did not. He knew the engineering and science teams did a great job constructing his difficult design of a miniture fractionor, for the engineers this task is very harsh on their part of judgement and Tovan's, for there mustn't be any mistakes at all, like a composer harsh tonguing his musicians. Tovan also congradulates sten and parker for their excellent work of the system's basic programing. Tovan with out being with the feast had already established a presence with the crew or rather establishing the crew in his mind.

The sky grew darker, the noise silenced a little, the rippling sounds of the stream grew louder. The mellow sound of the stream was now easier to identify. Tovan began to experience troubling memories. He pushes them back but the memories pushed back, one of them pentetrated his control.

"Derok, was an exemplary officer, a true bright mind, as his academy professors described him as a eager student. Today we are assembled here, because a tragity has come between us all. Today." Tovan winces at the voice he was hearing and pushes it down deep. But the voice resurfaced.

"There has been an accidentent as you all know....and you all very much miss him. Derok ... rivaling the most brilliant of engineers in starfleet... We'll miss him dearly." The voice continues.

"I feel what you all feel, i was very close to him with his work as do you all, we all agree that .... he...was a ...great man..." The voice breaks apart as another voice begins.

"Derok...... I considered him a friend...heh...it may not seem obvious but i think he would be fond of me as well.....I... I... will miss him ...I will miss the way he works through a diagnostic....I think i'll even miss his tight scheduals...I.. I..." That voice breaks off too. And another spoke.

"The first time i met Derok, i thought he was just another vulcan on the shelf, but he wasn't, under his enthusiastic, emotionless stlyes he was one of the greatest minds i ever seen, I......I will miss his company greatly.." This voice breaks off as Tovan fights the memories.

Tovan sat there on the sandy bank eyes closed but moving as he fought his battle against his memeories, But another penatrates him.

"Derok, Male, Vulcan, Starfleet Registry 11342-AAB432-2221, cause of death, shutl -" Tovan blocks this memory and the others with all his might. The memories loses their momentum and differs back to Tovan's control. His memories are safe for now.

Tovan stood up and opened his eyes. There was no noise, numberous little bits of lighting could be seen, but there was no noise, the crew had fallen asleep. Tovan looked at the sky, it was dark, a large amount of time has been spent meditating, Tovan was exhausted.

Tovan selects a clear area of sandy bank beside the river and closed his eyes, allowing the silent soft mellow music of the river put him to sleep. The sky was clear, Tovan opened his eyes, there it was, an image of Derok in the clear sky. Tovan closed his eyes again and peacefully fell asleep, in peace.
