A Key Moment for Rexxar

The meeting began to break up, and the First Prime nodded seriously to his military and internal affairs chancellors, to the leaders of the "Faithful," as they each began to pick up their notes, files and briefings. Most headed towards the door, some lingered to see if there were any more orders or requisitions to be handled. The chancellors had heatedly discussed what should be done about this new threat to the people. The threat from the planet Rogesh.

They had been forced to issue an order for the military to quell the public panic, and to enforce marshal law. Price-gougers would face stiff penalties, and many of the media outlets that did not agree with the government or the Faithful, had been pulled from the transmission sequencers.

Before, the only thing that had endangered the peoples of Rexxar, were the dissidents, the "pure scientists," those that did not believe in the ways of the Faithful, and for that, the Durotar War had been fought with the rebellious city-state of Jaina. Though the people of Jaina no longer existed, many of their unused arsenal had been recovered, as it had been buried deep underground, and were not destroyed in the initial attacks. In addition, much of Durotar's own arsenal had went unused, as those in Jaina were almost all taken out immediately. What remained, was a large weapons base, both planetary based, as well as some of Durotar's new orbital platforms, that had only launched a few of the fateful weapons that had been needed to end that war quickly.

Reminding themselves, just how quickly, a fast strike could save many of their own forces lives, the chancellors voted for what they had almost unanimously agreed, was the right thing to do. Defense first. That, and there could be no good defense, without a strong offense.

The First Prime hit the button on the desk, and Ferris came scurrying in. In his hands, he held an envelope, sealed with striped tape, and containing a key. Ferris looked at him wide-eyed, not really ready to believe that he First Prime was about to use the force he held in hands, and yet, was impresses and awed by the small bald man he had worked the last 23 years for.

"May the Faithful be right, that we are ordained to do this," the First Prime mumbled, as he tore open the envelope, and began reading the instructions to activate the weapons grids.
