A star in the sky

Sten's And Tovan's

Joint log

"A star in the sky"

(It is a calm and silent night, the only sound was the rustling made by Manticore's crew, Some officers who are awake. Sten is awakened by a loud beep made by Tovan's Padd. Sten stands over Tovan looking at his padd to catch up after the meeting was adjourned.)

Tovan looks up

"Evening Ensign." He said

Tovan looks back at his schematic, Sten, scratches his chin absently as he thinks, Tovan calculates his variables

Sten Sits back a bit and Nods

"Indeed, I think it can work." Sten Responded.

"But as Ensign Parker said, we will have only one shot at this." Sten Said worried.

Tovan looks up at the dark sky, watching the stars blink

Nodding. " There cannot be any mistakes building this. No Mistake." Tovan said while remembering that foolish shuttle crash which killed his brother. “No Mistakes…”

Sten frowns slightly. "I'm Confident we, and by that I mostly mean you engineers" Sten makes a slight grin "can get it going."

Tovan takes his eyes off of the sky and back on Sten

“There is no “I” in team Ensign, any officer building this machine will be awarded with the same and equal respect as any other officers”’ Tovan said. “After all we will need every one to appraise this machine and ask questions so that we will know if there is an mistake. A question may trigger some thing in our heads to make it more efficient and etc.”

Sten plays the simulation of the device

“It appears if we absolutely require several things; rainfall, or a body of water.

“Correct.” Tovan answered.

“… And we do not have to create a volcano any more correct?” Sten Asked.

“Correct.” Tovan answered.

The two officers Ponders for a moment, everything was silent.

Tovan, breaking the silence. “According to your data, is there any large body of water?”

Sten, waving to the west. “There is an ocean mouth that away, but the damage to the device is much greater there.”

“Agreed.” Tovan calculates for a second, Sten picks up Parker’s padd and reads it.

“Yes…. An ocean is too far away, but would a lake or a small body of water be optimal?” Sten inquired.

“It would suffice, the efficiency may be lowered a little but the danger of damage is reduced.” Tovan nodded.

Sten takes up his padd and high lights the lakes in blue. “I have highlighted the lakes nearby along with a few smaller rivers, we can start surveying them tomorrow.”

“Good work.” Tovan said simply.

“According to my schematics, the device will require a lot of work, with a crew of 15-20, it will take them … 3 days 2 hours and 14 minutes.” Tovan said pointing to his calculations. “I will have Lt. Romar (NPC) interviewing people with expertise to help.”

Tovan refreshes his mind and at once looks at the sky, a small drop of liquid dripped down from his eyes. Sten decided not to mention it. Sten looks at the sky as well.

“You know sir, I found it odd being on this planet. Sten said.

There was no answer from Tovan but Sten knew he is listening.

“I was born on a star ship, and grew up there. Now I live here, on Manticore. I never thought we would be marooned on a planet, I guess there is a first time for everything.”

Tovan looks down and at Sten. “Nothing is certain Ensign, any can happen.” Now his voice is eased. “I was born on a spice freighter, it was a rather interesting experience. I’ve seen more than 1373 types of spices from many species.” Tovan said.

Sten shakes his head to clear his thoughts, obviously exhausted.

“It late Ensign, you better get some rest for tomorrow, you’ll need it.” Tovan suggested.

Sten nods and walks back to his “quarters” to sleep.

Meanwhile Tovan shuts off his padd and looks up at the sky, thinking all the good times he and his brother had when they w

ere young.

The stars shine bright.
