Shore-Leave 25

31 posts in this topic

Ahhh, tis January of the new year, and you know what that means...

Thats right!  Shore-leave 25 is seven months away.  (if you're going to Baltimore, don't know how far away the Vegas trip is)

The question is, will STSF be continuing the shoreleave tradition?

Are you going to shoreleave? If so, which one?  Baltimore or Vegas?

Depends on how much ya'll wanna see me.  ;)  If you pick up the tab, good 'ol Webmaster will make a grand appearence.  Otherwise...  budget constraints and a lack of funds will hamper my ability to show.    :)    :D

Hey there,

Well, actually the Vegas trip has been code named Shore Leave 25: West. :)

It is happening and there have actually been quite a few mailings about it. In fact, quite a few people have already made reservations under the group rate we've got setup.

And for those curious, the dates are July 18 - July 20. ;)

if they ever have a convention up here in OTTAWA,ONTARIO,Canada then maybe i'll go to it but budget restraints lack of resources and a fairly young age prevent me from going

Can someone explain to me whats going on with this Shore Leave 25 thingy?

The Shore Leave thingy is a Star Trek, etc. fan convention held in the suburbs of Baltimore, MD every summer (this coming summer is the 25th).  Many of the charter members of STSF were also members of another group that would (for an unknown reason) gather at Shore Leave every year to meet in person.  Some of us have been attending this con for 6-7 years!

Anyway, some thought was given to possibly having a meeting in Las Vegas, at the hotel that hosts The Star Trek Experience, this coming year.  So, that's the whole... thingy.

I've been to the hotel. It's very expensive for the "Experience". I think

it was 50 dollars per person? Shoreleave sounds like fun. Glad

to see STSF continuing the tradition. The "space casino" is

not really Star Trek related. Just "spacey". The museum

before you get to the ride is worth it. Lots of interesting things

to see from the shows. Large models of the starships hang from

the ceilings, all lit up. It's impressive. If you don't mind the hour

or so wait for the "ride". But the Klingons and Borg walking around

chatting with the people in line help pass the time. Shoreleave

itself really isn't worth the trip at all unless you have friends

who you know are going to be there.

I went to my first ShoreLeave three years ago, not knowing anyone in person, just their characters.  It was such a blast putting faces to people I had been simming with all this time!  I've made wonderful friends, and I look forward to returning each year.

The experience is fun, and they give discounts for AAA members, military members (but you have to get your tickets from Nellis AFB) and last time I was there (last spring) your ticket for the experience was good for 24 hours.  But besides The Experience, and Quarks ... there is so much to do in Vegas, and I'm not talking gambling or shows.  Lots of free things to see and do.

Roller coasters (Huff, you'll have to double dog dare me for that) volcanos, animated statues, dancing water fountains, thunderstorms in the indoor markets, laser light shows -- you can't see it all.  And there is always the quick 30-40 minute drive to see Hoover Dam.  If you're that close you really should see it.  It's July, it's hot, but there are trams and cabs and buses that take anywhere you want go.  It's a blast!

Funny I will actually be in Las Vegas on that date just by coincidence!

I ususally dine at Quark's on my usual visits to the Vegas area, but with a convention going on ....yikes! I love vistiting Star Trek: The Experience...just for the atmosphere (okay...I confess..it's the giant ships that lure me there..not the ride..I get dizzy on that thing) shopping, and always hoping I'll see some Star Trek Trading Cards for sale there, NOT!!! Curious....to ask..what is the admission or is there any website advertising the event..?

Precip...

Ahh, one last addition to my posting of earlier about Vegas.  The idea of a Shore Leave - West is not a convention (the one in Baltimore is a con) - it's just a weekend to come to Vegad, enjoy the display of modern decadence and enjoy meeting friends and doing Star Treky things.  Thanks.

Hey there,

I can neither confirm nor deny that such trouble is caused. Doing so would be a violation of...some rule I'll come up with later. Your restraint in asking a followup question is not requested but demanded.  :)

That is just to easy to poke at...  I won't ask a question this time.  I'll just make an observation...

Such actions of neither confirming or denying something go a long way in the court of public opinion to say you indeed are guilty.  ;)  Just look at a certain former US President.  hehe     :)

Hey there,

Well, for those interested in what originally started Shore Leave, the Baltimore Shore Leave 25 convention website is http://www.shore-leave.com. Remember though, this is in no way associated with the event many are planning to attend in Vegas. ;)

Hey there,

Well, since Shore Leave West is taking place in Vegas when a Star Trek Convention is not...I doubt we'll see many cast members there. :o
