Berman out?

Hey there,

Head on over to Cinescape - Scoop: More ENTERPRISE Gossip.

I don't know. If it is true, they make it sound like a bad thing. I've thought for many years that Berman needed to go. Heck, anyone who wants to keep people like Ron Moore using the word "Spock" in an episode dealing with Sarek isn't someone I think belongs in charge. :)

Honestly, I agree.. it probably wouldn't be all too bad if Berman got the can. Guy doesn't know what he's thinking, IMO :)

I like Berman, most of the bad stuff in Star Trek is because of pressures from Paramount and not the actual producers.

Hey there,

I'm sorry, I have to disagree. This is someone that was yelling at the writers during the TNG episode dealing with Sarek's guest appearance. Screaming "YOU CANNOT MENTION SPOCK!" That wasn't Paramount, that was Berman.

Berman was the one that said to writers "Alright, you can write what you want for Star Trek VII...but it must involve the death of Kirk, Klingons and the destruction of the Enterprise-D. Oh! And the Romulans cannot be in it...only Klingons." Say what?

An individual that spawned one spin-off that didn't even start to get credible writers until it's sixth season. Someone that doesn't care about what Star Trek is supposed to be about. No, I'm sorry, Berman has been a problem from the day he started taking over day-to-day operations during TNG.

What's worse, most of the older actors and production staff agree. :/

I'm actually glad they left Spock's name out of that episode. It would have been very hard to mention Spock's name without the audience wondering where he was and what he was doing. That would have led to someone having to say "The Federation doesn't know where Ambassador Spock is." (Oh, yeah, at the time the audience didn't know he was an ambassador either.) and the mystery would have overshadowed the episode on the screen.

I don't know about the yelling and screaming thing ("And then we're going to Washington D. C. to take back the White House! YAAAAAAA!!" :)) but I don't think they could have done that episode any other way than what they did. And I'm glad they did an episode showing Sarek has more depth to his character than just looking after Spock. I only wish TNG had used him more often.

::shakes head:: Why can't you use bums to buy alcohol and tobacco like normal teenagers do?

The scary thing is some day your vote and mine will cancel each other out. :)

Hey there,

I worked at a 7-Eleven for 3 and a half years and attended training put on by the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control. Among other things we learned how to spot fake IDs, the signs that someone is buying alcohol and /or tobacco for a minor, etc.

It is a lot more common than you might think, and believe it or not the penalties are harsher for the convenience store clerk in charge of the shift it happens on than either the bum or the kid.

Actually, that's also the case in Toronto as well. A convenience store clerk selling cigs to minors and adults buying cigs for minors can be fined upwards to $4000 CDN. Sorry for drifting off-topic.

I've been reading about this some. Since its a rumor, I really don't believe it.

Even if Berman leaves, he won't leave the show entirely. If anyone is booted out, it would be Braga, because he hasn't been there an incredibly long time. The only real time Berman did "decent" was when Jeri Taylor was a Co-Producer of Voyager. If he is removed, Paramount would have to bring in another executive producer to take the spot... which will probably know about as much about Trek as Berman did 10 years ago. Paramount would also (probably) keep Berman around, at least for a little while, to make sure Trek isn't driven further into the ground.

Again, I don't believe any of this will happen. Paramount is not keen to fire people. (If they were, Berman would have been gone long ago.) If Berman is replaced, let's all hope it is someone who knows a lot about Trek... and someone who can explain the Xindi and the Temperal war! :)
