"The Bug"

"Computer open duty log and begin recording...

It's taken us nearly all week, but I think we finally have a working product.  Previous simulations have failed, but after another day's work, my team and I were able to work out the bugs out of "The Bug."  Nearly a week ago, Captain Meve assigned us the task of creating a program that would totally wipe out the entire computer core and its systems, but would leave the station's sensors in tact to capture the last few bits of information before Cardassia and Aegis become space dust.

The task was daunting.  We needed to leave enough intelligence within the computer itself to perform the operations of scanning and transmitting data.  The fears of Captain Meve was that somebody would nose around on Aegis extracting whatever information it could before the station was destroyed with the planet.  His fears are well founded.  There are many who would risk their lives just to get a piece of strategic information found within these walls.

Nevertheless, the sensors will be left functioning, but will be given a fail-safe device.  If they are tampered with in anyway, they will shutdown and the programming information will delete itself.  We've already readied the bug, and loaded it into the computer.  Now it's just a matter of setting the inevitable in motion.  My office needs packing.
