Suit Recorder On, Personal Log, Admiral Atragon-9

[whurr, clyck]

Well, I better conserve power wherever I can, so I save something using my suit recorder for now.

We have made an initial pass around Earth and it is disturbing, to say the least. I don't know how much is widely known of our results, but it will only hurt morale once they know. I can't keep this from them for much longer though, so I'll be announcing it all soon. We are clearly in the future and the human race is gone from the surface of this world. In fact, we have found no evidence of sentient life down there at all. There is a great deal of wild overgrowth across the world, including in areas that, classically, were population centers.

The only aspects about those former cities that is unusual is the shape and density of the overgrowth. Sensors are telling us that the plant life is growing on top of old man-made structures, but only stone and earthen constructs, no metals. That is the other strange turn, there is no evidence of any refined metals anywhere we have looked. This would also explain our earlier belief we were in the past and also why we could detect no Federation beacons or transmitters.

So we are faced with extremely old and deserted stone and mortar remnants buried under thousands of years of wild growth. The progress of this "Nature's revenge" on the human areas down there dates back 4,000 to 5,000 years. That would mean that whatever took place to eliminate all living creatures on the surface happened soon after we were temporally displaced.

Our current Deuterium supply is now down to less than a week's store - we must find a way out, a way back... a way home! I have called for yet another meeting of department reps (3 from each dept - how convenient, that will mean we're ALL in the meeting) to make our final plan before our fuels are exhausted completely.
