The STSF.NET backup chat rooms have been upgraded

The STSF.NET backup chat rooms have been upgraded. You may access them from the main Chat page at this site or you can click on the "Live Chat" link in the upper right hand of the Message Boards page. This will let you log into the chat Lobby as one of your Message Boards names. From there, you can choose either the Ready Room or the Holodeck.

Just giving the Lobby a "little test drive" right now, and I must say that I'm impressed. No lag at all, so far and no clicking sounds either. I can so see us simming here.. Thanks A-9 and Webby.. you did a great job. :P

Thank you, thank you. I can't take the credit for this, though. Our Webmaster did the setups, I just kept bugging him to tweak bits here and there.

Actually I like the old STSF backup room better. At least with the clicking sound I could tell I was still connected.

Tonight I should be uploading some Trek-specific Audio Emoticons, by the way. So we'll have things like "Door" and "RedAlert" and "HailFreq" and we'll lose things like "choochoo" and "harp"

NO! Not my choochoo, that little sound is addictive, but wooooooo you could use those sounds in practicle simming use like so everyone notices Red Alert or someone walking into a room.

Me too, Travis. I certainly hope of good things about the new ST.com rooms, or I'll be dissapointed. :)

Hey there,

Well, I know many of us on the GM Council had the ability to see a preview of the rooms...as have many others. They are well done and are not the "PeopleLink" rooms of the past. As to when they'll be online, time will tell. :)

I hate to say it, but I am really starting to miss the startrek.com rooms. This "new and improved" STSF room is either pushing me out or it has a really long lag for me, I can't say which. Basically I an having the problems a lot of you had with the "old" STSF room. The st.com rooms were bad, but they weren't this bad.

I can't figure out what is wrong. I'm using a Dell that runs XP and isn't even a year old yet, the latest Explorer, the latest Java, and a DSL connection that is not behind a firewall. Some say it is my ISP but I don't know why it would only affect the chat room.

Any advice?

Your ISP could be blocking ports 9000-9009, since they really aren't frequently used. ::sigh:: My ISP blocks every port that he thinks people won't use. I can't ping or tracert! Humf.
